Job description

Your Contribution
As an Applications Engineer, you will support the Product Development Process (PDP) for MAHLE projects from assigned customer(s) and products. Represent MAHLE at the assigned customer(s) for technical occasions. Create and maintain a network for information and communication flow both from customer to MAHLE and vice versa as well as within MAHLE's global organization. Application Engineer & Project Managers take full responsibility for all aspects of application engineering duties for the assigned customer projects. It may also include special assignments in relation to the function as an Application Engineer & Project Manager not specified here. Coordinate activities in the event of a pending milestone might be missed to establish a recovery plan and notify customer.
  • Project Management tasks, powers, and responsibilities as stated in W-G-1300.
  • Coordinate the product development projects from the design phase and into production. This requires handling the necessary correspondence and customer contacts related to the application and project management duties of the assigned accounts. It also includes general administration duties as well as special assignments as needed. Special assignments can include onsite support of plants to meet product quality, performance, and cost goals.
  • Support, set up and review of actual project budgets, compare activities and results with previously established budgets, and appropriate corrective measures in case of deviations.
  • Take responsibility for customer satisfaction and follow the company's strategies, goals and missions.
  • Interface with various individuals at our customers and at different locations within the MAHLE organization worldwide.
  • Continuously maintain familiarity with MAHLE product technology and follow up newly developed technologies and practices in order to be able to support our customers in their development programs and other aspects relevant to MAHLE.
  • Follow market trends and keep management informed on all important issues concerning their assigned accounts.
  • Plan, prepare, and conduct customer presentations, coordinate customer visits to the plant and attend and lead technical customer meetings. Travel as required (domestically and internationally).
  • Communicate/clarify issues related to prototype orders with the customer.
  • Comply with Company policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.
  • Understand macro automotive industry trends, how they affect our customers, how the customers' reaction affects our company, and recommend course of action for our company to best leverage said changes/trends to our company's benefit.
  • Manage the technical relationship between our company and assigned Customer(s)
  • Address customer concerns or issues as they arise by determining who at our company is best suited to resolve it and direct company resources to address the concern to the customer's satisfaction.
  • Manage and ensure that program timing is not in jeopardy.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of company's core competencies.
  • Define and realize short-, medium- and long-term customer strategies.
  • Keep a network with all relevant MAHLE plants and entities.
  • Organize customer visits and audits.
  • Use knowledge and experience to support plant productivity and cost improvements.

Your Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Business from a four year college or university and one or two years related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience simultaneously managing multiple account/customer relationships
  • In-depth knowledge of contract negotiations and product development required.
  • Good general base automotive technical knowledge, including powertrains, vehicle testing, and MAHLE's product suite.
  • Familiarity with OEM product development systems and processes required.
