Description
The Vision Product Group (VPG) is a team of passionate engineers who are designing, prototyping, analyzing, and launching the next generations of new products at Apple.
As a system product design engineer, you will be given ownership over a module/subsystems within the product and will be responsible for the analysis, assembly, and reliability of these parts.
In addition to product design, this effort will include the development and execution of validation plans, the design of custom test fixtures, and collaboration with outside suppliers.
You will engage in frequent multi-disciplinary collaboration with teams like Electrical Engineering, Reliability, Testing, DFM, SW, Industrial Design, Project Management, Materials, Manufacturing, Ergonomics and more.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar field
Fluent in Unigraphics NX including surfacing tools, statistical software (JMP), MacOS
Experience designing mechanisms, actuated systems, and machines (selection and sizing of passive or active/electro-mechanical components including motors and sensors)
Experience working through entire product cycle including shipping product experience especially in consumer electronics, robotics, automotive or aerospace
Ability to conceptualize, design and build test fixtures to validate designs
Understanding of science of tribology (friction, wear, lubrication) and setting up test/characterization, and validation of mechanisms
Experience taking designs through product development cycle from concept development to production bring up.
Detail orientated and capable of handling multiple assignments at once
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics Engineering or similar
6+ years of hands-on, detailed product design or mechanisms design experience
Knowledge in one or more of these disciplines: design for consumer electronics and wearables or mechanisms development
Strong design and analysis skills including CAD design, FEA analysis, GD&T, tolerance analysis, DFM etc.
Practical experience working through DFM challenges with external vendors
Experience with vendor FAI/CPK dimensional reports
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) including emails, preparing slide presentations, and presenting technical concepts to multi-disciplinary teams
Creative problem solving, with experience in challenging failure analysis, root cause investigation, and DOE creation
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,000 and $308,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You'll also receive benefits including: Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, a range of discounted products and free services, and for formal education related to advancing your career at Apple, reimbursement for certain educational expenses - including tuition.
