The Packaging PD team is a diverse group of people responsible for the design and execution of structural packaging for all Apple products - from shippers to finished goods boxes. Our packaging delivers an outstanding customer experience, while protecting products throughout the shipping environment, and advancing Apple's sustainability goals. We collaborate with a wide range of teams including Industrial Design, Marketing, Environmental, Operations, and many others during the design process.
Description
We are seeking someone who approaches problem-solving with passion, creativity, and curiosity. Apple's approach to packaging is unique, so we value people who are eager to learn new skills and further improve their knowledge of packaging design, manufacturing processes, and sustainable materials. We welcome fresh influences from outside the standard packaging industry to promote innovation in creative ways.","responsibilities":"Develop and evaluate new materials, maintain material data portfolio, and consult on material selection
Translate product-level requirements into material and process specifications, working cross-functionally to validate feasibility
Design and execute material performance studies, including test methods, DOE plans, and statistical analysis
Create material specifications and partner with suppliers and manufacturing engineers to implement IQC/OQC processes
Conduct characterization testing and failure analysis to define specifications and root-cause issues.
Build and maintain relationships with vendors, research groups, and partner industries to identify emerging materials and technologies
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with contract manufacturers and vendors from concept to manufacturing in mass-production
Experience developing materials with a wide range of performance requirements
Working knowledge of analytical techniques to characterize materials
Experience with paper, fiber, inks, coatings, or bio-based materials
Data-driven approach to solving complex problems
Minimum Qualifications
3 years of relevant industry experience
BS in Materials Science & Engineering, Polymer Science, Fiber Science, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
Strong knowledge of material science fundamentals
Strong analytical/creative problem-solving skills; ability to use statistical tools and techniques
Effective verbal and written presentation skills, able to present technical details succinctly
Ability to travel internationally, up to 20%
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $184,700 and $277,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
