Job description

Position Overview
Stealth Solutions is seeking an experienced Appian Consultant to support the development, testing, enhancement, and ongoing sustainment of a mission-critical federal application environment.
This is a hands-on technical role that combines Appian application development with quality engineering and automated testing. We are looking for a well-rounded Appian professional who understands how applications are built, can independently test and troubleshoot them, and can use automation to improve application quality and release reliability.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Appian development and be comfortable working across functional testing, automated regression testing, integration testing, and application performance validation. You will work alongside Appian developers, technical leads, business analysts, and customer stakeholders to take functionality from requirements through development, testing, release, and production support.
This role is particularly well suited for an Appian professional who enjoys being close to both the build and quality sides of delivery and wants to broaden their technical ownership over time.
The position supports a mature, enterprise-scale production Appian environment with a large user community, ongoing Agile enhancements, regular Appian platform upgrades, routine hotfixes, and production support responsibilities. The team operates using two-week Scrum sprints with work managed through Jira.
This is a hybrid position. The successful candidate should be available to work remotely as well as report to a Stealth Solutions office or customer location as required for client meetings, sprint ceremonies, team collaboration, and other project activities. Candidates should be able to support the customer's core business hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. Occasional Government-approved travel may also be required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, configure, enhance, and support Appian applications using SAIL interfaces, Process Models, Record Types, expression rules, decision rules, and other native Appian capabilities.
  • Work with Technical Leads, Business Analysts, and customer stakeholders to translate business requirements and user stories into maintainable Appian solutions.
  • Develop and enhance reusable Appian components, interfaces, workflows, records, and process patterns following Appian development best practices.
  • Support Appian Data Fabric implementations, including Record Types, relationships, data models, and reusable access to application data.
  • Develop and support integrations with external systems using Appian Connected Systems, Integration Objects, REST APIs, SOAP services, and related integration capabilities.
  • Perform functional, integration, system, regression, smoke, and end-to-end testing against user stories, acceptance criteria, and business requirements.
  • Develop and maintain automated regression test scripts and reusable test suites that expand as application functionality evolves.
  • Identify appropriate opportunities for test automation and help reduce reliance on repetitive manual testing.
  • Execute and support application performance and load testing, analyze results, identify potential bottlenecks, and work with the technical team to resolve performance issues.
  • Perform testing of APIs and system integrations, including positive and negative scenarios, error handling, data validation, and exception conditions.
  • Validate application data through record-level testing, reconciliation, exception analysis, and verification against authoritative data sources.
  • Support Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility testing of new and modified Appian user interfaces and workflows using automated and manual testing techniques.
  • Create and maintain test plans, test cases, test scripts, test data, defect reports, test results, and other quality documentation necessary to support releases.
  • Document defects with sufficient functional and technical detail to enable developers to efficiently reproduce, diagnose, and resolve issues.
  • Work directly with developers to reproduce defects, isolate root causes, validate fixes, and ensure appropriate regression coverage.
  • Participate in peer reviews and quality reviews to ensure solutions follow Appian standards and favor native, out-of-the-box Appian functionality wherever practical.
  • Support application troubleshooting using Appian Health Check, application logs, integration logs, and performance diagnostics.
  • Assist with production incident investigation, root-cause analysis, defect correction, and verification of production fixes.
  • Support regression and release-readiness testing associated with Appian platform upgrades and hotfixes.
  • Participate in release activities, including test execution, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), release-readiness reviews, deployment validation, and post-production verification.
  • Help enforce release quality gates by ensuring applicable functional, regression, integration, performance, accessibility, and security validation has been completed before production deployment.
  • Maintain technical and testing documentation, reusable automation assets, SOPs, runbooks, and knowledge-base information to support long-term application sustainment.
  • Track user stories, defects, incidents, testing activities, and technical tasks in Jira and maintain appropriate traceability throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum activities including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, stakeholder demonstrations, and retrospectives.
Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship is preferred due to the federal customer environment.
  • Must be eligible to successfully complete the required NACI/Public Trust security processing before accessing federal information systems. Non-U.S. citizens must be able to satisfy applicable federal residency, background, and additional security screening requirements.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and be able to perform all work within the United States.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • 2–4+ years of hands-on Appian experience in application development, implementation, sustainment, testing, or a combination of these areas.
  • Solid hands-on knowledge of core Appian capabilities, including:
    • SAIL interfaces
    • Process Models
    • Record Types
    • Expression Rules
    • Decision Rules
    • Data Types
    • Appian Data Fabric
  • Experience developing, configuring, enhancing, or troubleshooting Appian applications.
  • Experience performing functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing of enterprise applications.
  • Experience creating structured test cases based on user stories, requirements, acceptance criteria, and business rules.
  • Experience identifying, documenting, reproducing, and validating software defects.
  • Working knowledge of REST APIs, SOAP services, or other enterprise integration technologies.
  • Working knowledge of relational data concepts, data validation, and basic SQL.
  • Familiarity with automated software testing concepts and the ability to develop or maintain automated test scripts.
  • Familiarity with application performance testing concepts and the ability to assist with performance or load-testing activities.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery teams.
  • Experience with Jira and source-control or delivery tools such as Git, GitLab, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle practices, release management, and quality gates.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate the underlying cause of an application issue rather than simply document the symptom.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with developers, analysts, architects, and customer stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Appian Certified Associate Developer or higher Appian certification.
  • Appian Certified Senior Developer certification or equivalent hands-on Appian experience.
  • Experience with Appian-specific automated testing capabilities or automation frameworks used to test Appian applications.
  • Experience with one or more test automation tools or frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Cucumber, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience with API testing tools such as Postman/Newman, REST Assured, or similar tools.
  • Experience with performance/load-testing tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience building or maintaining automated regression suites as part of a CI/CD pipeline.
  • Experience with Appian Health Check, application logs, performance diagnostics, and production troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting regression testing for Appian platform upgrades and hotfixes.
  • Experience with Section 508 / WCAG accessibility testing, including automated accessibility scanning, keyboard-navigation testing, or screen-reader validation.
  • Familiarity with application security testing, role-based access controls, MFA, least-privilege principles, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Experience supporting production applications with defined incident priorities, response targets, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Prior experience supporting Federal Government or public-sector customers.
  • Experience working with applications that process sensitive information or Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
What We're Looking For

  • We are looking for a well-rounded Appian professional with a strong technical foundation who can contribute across both application development and quality engineering.
  • Your strongest skill should be Appian. You should understand how Appian applications are designed and built well enough to develop or enhance functionality, troubleshoot issues, and intelligently test the solution.
  • You should also have practical testing experience and understand how to validate functionality beyond basic happy-path testing. Experience developing automated regression tests is highly desirable.
  • Deep specialization in every automation or performance-testing tool is not required. Candidates with strong Appian skills and solid software quality fundamentals who are willing and able to expand their automation and performance-testing capabilities are encouraged to apply.
  • Success in this position will depend on your ability to contribute across three complementary areas:
  • Appian Engineering: Understand, develop, configure, and troubleshoot Appian applications.
  • Quality Engineering: Validate functionality, integrations, data, accessibility, and production readiness throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Test Automation: Help automate repeatable regression and validation activities so the team can deliver frequent enhancements and platform upgrades without sacrificing quality.
