Job description

Ascension Christian School is a multi-campus, accredited, S.T.E.M. school located in Gonzales, Louisiana. Our focus on continuous school improvement coupled with a rich Christian culture has been the cornerstone for the accentuated growth of our early learning center (pre-K ), elementary (K4-6), and high school campuses. Ascension Christian High (ACH) offers challenging courses for grades 7-12, including Christian Apologetics, A.P. and dual-enrollment courses, and an elite honors program.

General Description: Early Learning Center staff members support the children's spiritual, emotional, and developmental growth by fostering a nurturing, Christ-centered classroom. Note - This position is for the 2026-2027 school year.
The team member will be expected to:
Infant Age Group:
  • Provide nurturing behaviors to the infants: picking them up, holding, and rocking throughout the day.
  • Read stories to the infants daily while holding them.
  • Feed the infants while holding them or 1-1 in a high chair.
  • Talk to the infants while feeding and diapering
  • Play with the infant on the floor for a portion of the day
  • Provide learning aids to the infant and talk about them with the infant
  • Encourage the infant to sit, roll over, scoot, crawl, stand, and walk following developmental guidelines
  • Practice appropriate sanitary practices: always washing own hands & infant's hands

Toddler Age Group:
  • Read to the children in small groups or individually daily
  • Practice appropriate sanitary practices: always washing a child's hands after assisting the child in using the bathroom/diapering and assisting the child in washing his hands
  • Talk to children while eating with them or feeding them
  • Assist children in becoming more independent in areas such as dressing and eating
  • Engage children in games promoting language and gross motor skills
  • Introduce children to drawing and play activities

Preschool Age Group:
  • Follow curriculum in daily teaching
  • Read to children in small groups to meet curriculum
  • Implement daily lesson plans as developed
  • Use activity centers in appropriate ways
  • Engage children in conversation, both individually and in group settings
  • Practice appropriate sanitary practices: always washing a child's hands after assisting the child in using the bathroom and assisting the child in washing his hands
