API QA professionals often encounter challenges such as dealing with rapidly changing API specifications, ensuring comprehensive test coverage for various endpoints, and managing dependencies on backend services. Additionally, they must handle authentication, data validation, and response consistency across multiple environments. Collaborating closely with developers and DevOps teams is essential to quickly identify and resolve issues, making strong communication and adaptability key skills for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an API QA, and why are they important?

To thrive as an API QA, you need a strong understanding of software testing principles, API protocols (such as REST and SOAP), and experience with test automation, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Job Title: QA Lead (hybrid- onsite- Monday- Thursday)

Location: US-GA-Atlanta (Sandy Springs)

FLSA: Exempt

#LI-Hybrid

Job Overview:

The Senior QA Lead is responsible for overseeing all quality assurance activities across key enterprise systems including customer portals, APIs, databases, CMS, and rating/enrollment platforms. This role bridges the gap between QA execution and management — providing hands-on leadership in test planning, technical validation, and defect analysis.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in both functional and technical QA, including backend validation, integration testing, and cross-system dependencies. This position requires strong collaboration with Engineering, Product, and DevOps teams to ensure reliable, scalable, and high-performing releases.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary QA point of contact for assigned systems (Portals, APIs, Databases, CMS, Rating & Enrollment).
  • Lead daily QA activities for multiple concurrent projects, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Mentor and guide QA Analysts in test design, execution, and defect management.
  • Coordinate with the QA Manager to prioritize workloads, align with sprint goals, and ensure coverage of all functional and integration areas.
  • Represent QA in sprint ceremonies, grooming sessions, and release readiness reviews.
  • Develop detailed test strategies and test plans for each release, covering both functional and technical aspects.
  • Perform thorough end-to-end testing across systems, including front-end, API, and database validation.
  • Oversee regression, integration, and UAT cycles, ensuring test completeness before sign-off.
  • Ensure proper defect triage, root-cause documentation, and cross-team communication on critical issues.
  • Maintain traceability between requirements, test cases, and defects to ensure auditability.
  • Validate API behavior, payloads, and integrations between systems using tools such as Postman or Swagger.
  • Execute complex SQL queries for backend data validation and verification of business rules.
  • Review and validate CMS configurations, content workflows, and database linkages.
  • Identify dependencies or data inconsistencies across rating and enrollment portals and proactively work with development teams to resolve issues.
  • Support environment validation and test data preparation, ensuring consistent and stable test runs.
  • Assist the QA Manager in enhancing QA standards, templates, and documentation practices.
  • Contribute to improving defect reporting and classification processes for better analytics and traceability.
  • Partner with the Automation and DevOps teams to identify areas suitable for automation and integration into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Promote continuous improvement by analyzing recurring defects and recommending preventive measures.
  • Work closely with Developers, Product Owners, and Business Analysts to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Escalate risks or blockers early and provide mitigation plans for QA-related delays.
  • Ensure test results and release sign-offs are properly documented and communicated to stakeholders.

The above statements are intended only to describe the general nature of the job and should not be construed as an all-inclusive list of position responsibilities.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Management or related field — or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in software QA, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end testing methodologies across web, API, and backend layers.
  • Hands-on experience with API testing tools (e.g., Postman, Katalon) and SQL for data validation.
  • Proven experience testing portals, rating engines, or critical systems.
  • Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based environments.
  • Experience with defect tracking and test management tools (e.g., Jira, TestOps, or similar).
  • Experience with automation frameworks (Katalon, Playwright) is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret technical logs, API schemas, and backend workflows.

Company Benefits:

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Account
  • Health Savings Account
  • 401(k) Plan with Company Match
  • Company-paid Short-Term and Long-Term Disability
  • Company-paid Life Insurance
