Ap Engineer information

What is an AP engineer?

AP Engineers, or Accounts Payable Engineers, are professionals responsible for managing and processing a company's outgoing payments and financial obligations related to vendor invoices and expenses. They ensure that all payments are accurately recorded, approved, and paid in a timely manner. AP Engineers may also work to streamline payment processes, resolve discrepancies, and collaborate with other departments to maintain accurate financial records. Their role is essential for maintaining good supplier relationships and ensuring organizational financial health.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AP engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an AP (Accounts Payable) Engineer, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, financial processes, and relevant degree or certification in finance or accounting. Familiarity with accounting software such as SAP, Oracle, or QuickBooks, as well as proficiency in Excel and ERP systems, is typically required. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for managing large volumes of transactions and collaborating with vendors and other departments. These skills ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial operations, which are vital to the organization's fiscal health.

What is the difference between Ap Engineer vs Network Engineer?

Common Search/ComparisonYesYes

The Ap Engineer primarily focuses on installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting access points and wireless infrastructure, often working on-site at telecom or data center locations. In contrast, a Network Engineer designs, implements, and manages entire network systems, including wired and wireless networks, often within office environments or data centers. While both roles require networking certifications like CCNA, the Ap Engineer's work is more field-oriented, whereas the Network Engineer's role is more system and network design-focused.

How does an AP engineer typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

An AP (Accounts Payable) Engineer frequently works alongside finance, procurement, and IT teams to ensure seamless processing of invoices and payments. Collaboration often involves troubleshooting invoice discrepancies, integrating financial software, and streamlining workflow automation. AP Engineers also communicate with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve payment issues and implement process improvements, fostering a collaborative environment that supports financial accuracy and operational efficiency.

In this role, you'll lead the planning, design, and construction support for a diverse portfolio of healthcare, mission critical, higher education, and complex commercial projects - from concept to completion.
You'll collaborate closely with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and vendors to shape innovative mechanical systems that stand the test of time. Your expertise will guide the development of RFPs, construction drawings, and specifications that set the standard for excellence.
If you're a seasoned engineer with a passion for high-performance building design and a track record of delivering results, we want you on our team. At Michael Baker you'll be part of a dynamic group that values creativity, precision, and forward-thinking solutions. We offer competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and clear pathways for career growth - because we believe your success powers ours.
What You Will Do:
  • Lead the design and development of mechanical and plumbing construction documents, including layouts, details, and specifications.
  • Engage with clients in business development activities, support proposal development, and contribute to business growth.
  • Collaborate with architects, interior designers, electrical, fire, structural, and other disciplines to deliver integrated building solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Participate in client meetings, assess project needs, present design concepts, and adjust plans to meet client expectations.
  • Develop scope of work, develop pricing and technical documentation, and create fee estimates for proposals.
  • Perform detailed HVAC technical analyses and calculations.
  • Ensure project quality, schedule, and budget requirements are consistently met.
  • Contribute to internal and external technical development initiatives.
  • Conduct internal technical reviews (ITRs) of peer design projects.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly.
  • Perform field surveys of existing equipment to inform design decisions.
  • Stay current with trends and innovations in HVAC and plumbing engineering.
  • Support additional tasks, assigned by management.

What You Need to Succeed:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering (Mechanical Focus) required.
  • 8+ years of related professional experience is required.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required.
  • Experience in building mechanical design and construction administration.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills to effectively interface and communicate with team members, customers, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook) and PDF software such as Adobe or Bluebeam
  • Ability to be self-motivated and to research and troubleshoot problems as they arise
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deliverable deadlines
  • Complete work in an efficient and accurate manner
  • Ability to train, mentor and supervise junior engineers
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and controls design
  • Extensive experience with technical writing
  • Availability to occasionally travel to project locations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Design-Build experience preferred
  • LEED AP, CPD, and/or CEM credentials are recognized, but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of IMC, IBC, and other applicable codes, as well as design manuals and standards relating to mechanical and plumbing engineering is required.
