Job description

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to oversee core accounting functions and support financial reporting, compliance, and operational improvements for a company in the industrial sector. This role is suited for a detail-oriented professional with strong general ledger knowledge, fixed asset experience, and the ability to lead within a process-driven environment. The ideal candidate brings both public and corporate accounting experience and thrives in a hands-on, team-oriented environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activity.
  • Oversee cash accounting processes and support month-end and year-end close, including accruals, inventory reconciliation, and fleet reporting.
  • Prepare and review internal financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Prepare monthly state sales tax reports and ensure timely payments.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cross-functional financial reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records of fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and capital expenditures.
  • Manage fleet-related accounting, including maintenance, depreciation, and reporting compliance.
  • Reconcile intercompany accounts, balance sheet accounts, and selected expense accounts.
  • Draft and recommend journal entries and perform accounting research as needed.
  • Identify and support improvements to existing accounting processes and controls.
  • Coordinate with external accountants for annual audits and tax preparation.
  • Monitor cash flow and recommend strategies to maintain adequate liquidity.
  • Support cost accounting and job costing analysis.
  • Promote a collaborative, high-performing work environment within the accounting team.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in both public and corporate settings.
  • 2+ years in a leadership accounting role with hands-on responsibility.
  • Working knowledge of AP/AR, cash reconciliation, general ledger, fixed assets, and month-end close.
  • Experience with fleet accounting and inventory reconciliation is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP.
  • Familiarity with SAGE, SharePoint, or similar systems.
  • Ability to navigate manual or partially automated environments.
  • Strong organizational habits with sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Clear communicator with effective time management skills.
  • Capable of balancing multiple priorities within a deadline-driven schedule.
  • Experience in manufacturing, construction, or related industrial fields preferred.
  • Professional presence with a collaborative, team-focused approach.


Compensation

  • $80,000 to $90,000, depending on experience.
