What is an AOG manager?

An AOG (Aircraft on Ground) Manager is responsible for coordinating and expediting the repair and delivery of critical aircraft parts and services when an aircraft is grounded due to technical issues. Their main goal is to minimize downtime and ensure that aircraft return to service as quickly and safely as possible. This role involves working closely with maintenance teams, suppliers, and logistics providers to resolve urgent issues and manage resources efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AOG manager?

To excel as an AOG Manager, you need in-depth knowledge of aviation maintenance, logistics coordination, and regulatory compliance, often backed by a degree in aviation management or a related field. Familiarity with maintenance tracking systems, inventory management software, and aviation industry platforms like AMOS or TRAX is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and the capacity to perform under pressure set top performers apart. These skills are crucial for minimizing aircraft downtime, ensuring safety, and maintaining efficient airline operations in high-stakes situations.

What are some common challenges faced by AOG managers and how can they be addressed?

AOG (Aircraft on Ground) Managers often face the challenge of responding quickly to unexpected aircraft maintenance issues, which require rapid coordination with logistics, suppliers, and maintenance teams. Balancing tight deadlines, limited resources, and high-pressure situations is common, and it’s crucial to have strong problem-solving skills and clear communication channels. Building solid relationships with vendors and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of supply chain logistics can help address these challenges and ensure timely resolution of AOG events.
