Registered Nurse CVICU

Unit Description:

2H ICU is a 12-bed Cardiovascular and Thoracic Critical Care Unit. Primarily serving adult and geriatric post-op cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries (CABG, Valve Replacement/Repair, TAVR, Bronch/Thor, and other thoracic and vascular surgeries). This unitalso cares for general surgery post-op requiring intensive care, Pre and post critical cardiac Cath lab interventions, post cardiac arrest, sepsis, and complex care ICU patients. 2HICU also provides care for patients on multiple devices such as ECMO, Impella, IABP, and CVVHD/CRRT. RNs from this unit respond to all south tower Rapid Response and Code Blue emergencies. 2H may also take overflow from the other ICUs.

Job Description:

The Registered Nurse (RN) implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person and the creation of a caring environment focused on healing and wellness.

  • S/he honors patients' mind, body and spirit by respecting human dignity and the uniqueness of each individual.

  • Nursing practices are based on evidence and current research as well as hospital and department policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines.

  • Clinical decision-making incorporates all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity.

  • Nursing excellence is promoted through helping relationships among nursing staff and across other disciplines.

  • R is an exemplar for compassion, acceptance, respect, and empathy honoring nursing as a distinct discipline and supporting an environment focused on healing and wellness.

  • As a clinical nurse, this individual spends majority of his/her time (> 50%) coordinating, ensuring, and providing direct patient care activities on the unit through: provision of nursing rounds, assessments and treatments; facilitating admission, transfer and discharge activities; provision of patient and family-centered education; care coordination and individualized treatment planning as applicable, etc.

Minimum Education, Experience, Training and Licensures Required:

  • Current RN licensure or work permit in Kentucky.

  • Bachelor's or an associate degree in nursing from an accredited college/university.

  • Those with an associate degree in nursing and less than 10 years of experience must enroll within 12 months of hire in a bachelor's degree program and musthave achieved the degree within 5 years.

  • Basic Life Support- Applicants will have 30 days from their hired date to provide completion of this certification if they don't have it already.

  • ACLS/PALS/NRP and successful completion of dysrhythmia class as required by department of Assignment.
