Job description

We are seeking a passionate & highly motivated Staff Antenna Systems Engineer to lead the development & implementation of cutting-edge wireless technologies across Lucid's current and future vehicle platforms. The Staff Antenna Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in defining, developing, and delivering end-to-end antenna solutions across the Lucid vehicle portfolio. This individual will lead antenna system development across Cellular, Wi-Fi, BLE, GNSS, UWB, V2X, AM/FM/DAB, Satellite Connectivity, Automotive Radar & other emerging wireless technologies. The role requires advanced expertise in 3D electromagnetic simulation, antenna design, standalone antenna characterization, vehicle level testing and optimization, and technical collaboration with suppliers, vendors, internal & external partners.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Define & design passive & active antenna system architectures for vehicle telematics, infotainment, access control, ADAS, radio (FM/AM/DAB) etc. across multiple wireless technologies. 
  • Perform 3D EM & circuit level simulations using industry standard tools such as CST Studio Suite, ANSYS HFSS/HFSS 3D Layout, ANSYS Circuit & Keysight ADS. 
  • Predict antenna performance in both standalone & fully integrated vehicle environments.
  • Correlate simulation results with measured data & drive design improvements.
  • Lead integration of antennas into vehicle structures such as glass, roof modules, liftgates, side mirrors, front/rear fascias etc. 
  • Evaluate vehicle-level impacts on antenna performance caused by body structures, wiring harnesses, trim, glazing, and electronic modules.
  • Collaborate with ME, EMC, EE, SW engineering teams to achieve robust wireless over the air performance.
  • Conduct RF link budget analysis and wireless system performance assessments.
  • Evaluate & mitigate coexistence and de-sense issues across multiple radios.
  • Lead technical discussions & design reviews with antenna suppliers.
  • Develop antenna validation plans, test methodologies, analyze test data & implement corrective actions when performance targets are not achieved.
  • Present technical recommendations to engineering leadership & executive teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in antenna/RF systems design for automotive/consumer-electronics or aerospace industries for multiple wireless technologies.
  • Advanced expertise in using modelling and simulation tools like MATLAB, CST Studio Suite, ANSYS HFSS, Keysight ADS etc. for antenna stand-alone simulation & full vehicle integration simulation analysis.
  • Experience with RF lab equipment such as VNA, spectrum/signal analyzer, RF signal generators, callboxes etc.
  • Experience with prototyping and implementation of complex antenna designs.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, collaboration & communication skills, with the ability to influence and build effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Willingness to travel 10% of the time to Lucid production facilities, external vehicle test labs & ranges etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in electrical engineering with a focus on Electromagnetics/antenna or related fields along with 3+ years of industry experience in automotive or aerospace or telecommunications industries.
  • Experience in phased-array antenna development & optimization including AoA estimation & beamforming. 
  • Experience in passive-entry localization technologies such as UWB & Bluetooth LE Channel Sounding.
  • Expertise in RF coexistence and de-sense mitigation through simulation, analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Expertise in predicting & optimizing vehicle-level wireless performance through comprehensive end to end RF link budget analysis.
  • Familiar with regulatory & carrier certification requirements for FCC, CE, PTCRB, AT&T, T-Mobile etc.
  • Knowledge of wireless chipset selection, characterization & board level integration design & optimization.
