How much do antenna jobs pay per year?

As of May 28, 2026, the average yearly pay for antenna in the United States is $137,309.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $101,500.00 and $196,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Antenna Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Antenna Engineer, you need a solid background in electromagnetics, RF engineering, and antenna theory, typically supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with simulation tools like HFSS, CST, or MATLAB, as well as experience with network analyzers and antenna measurement systems, is crucial. Strong problem-solving abilities, collaboration, and effective communication skills help engineers innovate and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams. These competencies enable the design and optimization of antennas that meet performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements in various applications.

What are the typical projects or tasks an antenna engineer works on as part of a multidisciplinary team?

Antenna engineers often collaborate closely with RF engineers, mechanical designers, and manufacturing teams to design, prototype, and test antennas for various applications such as telecommunications, satellite systems, and consumer electronics. Typical projects include conducting simulations, optimizing antenna performance, and troubleshooting signal issues. The role requires frequent cross-functional communication to ensure that the antenna design meets system requirements and regulatory standards, making teamwork and adaptability essential for success.

What are antennas and what do they do?

Antennas are devices used to transmit or receive electromagnetic waves, such as radio, television, or cellular signals. They convert electrical signals into radio waves (for transmission) or radio waves into electrical signals (for reception). Antennas are essential components in wireless communication systems, including Wi-Fi, satellite, and mobile networks. Their size, shape, and design vary depending on the frequency and application, impacting their efficiency and range.

What is the difference between Antenna vs Radio Frequency (RF) Technician?

AspectAntennaRadio Frequency (RF) Technician
Required CredentialsAssociate's degree or technical certification in electronics or telecommunicationsAssociate's degree or technical certification in electronics, telecommunications, or RF technology
Work EnvironmentOutdoor and indoor installation sites, towers, rooftopsLaboratories, field sites, installation and maintenance locations
Industry UsageDesign and installation of antennas for communication systemsMaintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of RF equipment and systems

While both Antennas and RF Technicians work within the telecommunications industry, Antennas focus on designing and installing antenna systems, whereas RF Technicians handle the testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of RF equipment. The roles often overlap in field environments, but their primary responsibilities differ.
