What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Hand Animator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Hand Animator, you need strong drawing skills, a solid understanding of anatomy and motion, and often a degree in animation or a related field. Proficiency with animation software such as Adobe Animate, Toon Boom Harmony, or Autodesk Maya is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication help animators collaborate and bring characters to life. These competencies are crucial to producing high-quality, expressive animations that engage audiences and meet production standards.

What is an Anime Hand?

An Anime Hand refers to the way hands are illustrated in anime or manga art styles. These hands often feature exaggerated proportions, simplified lines, and expressive gestures to convey emotion and action. Artists study different poses and use stylized techniques to draw hands that fit the unique look of anime characters. Drawing anime hands can be challenging, but with practice and reference, artists can master this essential skill for character design.

What are the typical responsibilities of an animator specializing in hand-drawn anime?

Animators focused on hand-drawn anime are responsible for creating detailed frame-by-frame illustrations that bring characters and scenes to life. This involves working with key animators and directors to interpret storyboards, ensuring consistency in character movement and style, and often meeting tight production deadlines. Collaboration is essential, as hand-drawn animators frequently coordinate with background artists, colorists, and editors to deliver seamless final animations. Adapting to feedback and maintaining attention to detail are common challenges in this creative and fast-paced environment.

Job description

About the Role

In the role of Principal Product Manager, you will report to the CPO and work directly with him to spearhead the setup and proof of concept of a new product development operating model. We are considering applicants for our Los Angeles, CA; or Dallas, TX locations.

This is a highly impactful role focused on rethinking how products are built and delivered across Crunchyroll. Whereas a traditional product development model requires multiple sequential hand-offs, this role will help spearhead initiatives that explore unified delivery models and experimentations in ways-of-working.

In this role, your charter will be to work directly with executive leadership to build a more seamless flow from idea, to prototype, to validation, to production. You will own the spin-up of various new operating models end-to-end. You will define what effective unified delivery teams look like in practice, identify the tooling and systems required to support them, and launch early pilot teams to test and refine the approach in real product environments.

You will partner closely with leaders across Product, Engineering, Design, Data, and Business stakeholders to run these experiments, evaluate emerging AI-enabled development tools, and establish early proof points for a scalable product operating system for Crunchyroll.

Core Areas of Responsibility
  • Product Innovation & Operating Model Design: Lead, execute, and validate a new product development operating model
  • AI-enabled Product Development & Tooling Strategy: Identify and integrate AI tools, automation systems, and rapid prototyping capabilities into the product development lifecycle. Define how modern tooling and AI workflows can meaningfully accelerate discovery, experimentation, and delivery from idea through production.
  • Measurement, Alignment, and Scale Readiness: Define success metrics for the operating model and establish feedback loops to evaluate performance of delivery teams. Partner with senior leadership to align on learnings and evolve the model toward broader organizational adoption.
About You

We get excited about candidates like you because you bring...

  • 10+ years of experience in product management, product operations, innovation strategy, or technical program leadership within fast-paced technology organizations.
  • Experience with agentic workflows, rapid prototyping frameworks, internal tooling systems, or organizational design initiatives.
  • Experience working with Engineering, Design, and Data teams to ship consumer-facing digital products or internal platforms.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to operate across technical and non-technical stakeholders, align teams around new ways of working, and effectively present to executive leadership.
  • Familiarity with modern product development and collaboration tools, including Jira, Confluence, Figma, Notion, and AI-assisted prototyping platforms.
  • Bonus Points: Passion for anime and fandom culture!
Why you will love working at Crunchyroll

In addition to getting to work with fun, passionate and inspired colleagues, you will also enjoy the following benefits and perks:

  • Receive a great compensation package including salary plus performance bonus earning potential, paid annually.
  • Flexible time off policies allowing you to take the time you need to be your whole self.
  • Generous medical, dental, vision, STD, LTD, and life insurance
  • Health Saving Account HSA program
  • Health care and dependent care FSA
  • 401(k) plan, with employer match
  • Employer paid commuter benefit
