Job description

The Editor is responsible for shaping the storytelling, pacing, and overall cinematic experience of animated feature and television projects from early development through final delivery. Working closely with filmmakers, producers, and creative executives, the Editor plays a critical creative role in assembling and refining animatics, screenings, and final picture edits that support the vision of the project while maintaining high editorial and technical standards. The ideal candidate combines strong storytelling instincts, technical expertise, and collaborative communication skills with a deep understanding of animation workflows and post-production processes. This Motion Picture Editors Guild position is covered by the Sony Pictures Animation Agreement.ย 

Sony Pictures Animation is a pre-production animation studio based in Los Angeles, California, creating both feature animation and animated series with artists from around the world. We pride ourselves on empowering filmmakers to lead the creative process, and allowing the hand of the artist to be truly felt, with the goal of producing bold and innovative visual storytelling.

Responsibilities:
  • Shape the pacing, performance, tone, dialogue, music, and sound design of animated projects through editorial decision-making
  • Collaborate closely with directors, producers, and studio executives from early story development and animatics through final delivery
  • Assemble and refine editorial cuts that support the storytelling vision and creative goals of the project
  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of editorial materials for screenings, reviews, and external deliveries
  • Partner with production teams, animation artists, VFX professionals, and post-production teams to ensure efficient workflows and timely delivery of assets
  • Attend and participate in creative reviews, notes sessions, and production meetings with filmmakers and studio leadership
  • Implement and manage revisions resulting from screenings and creative feedback sessions
  • Support sound integration and audio review processes, including temp mixes and collaboration with external sound teams as needed
  • Maintain organization and accuracy of editorial assets, timelines, and project materials throughout production
  • Help facilitate communication between editorial, production, and post-production teams to support smooth project execution
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of editorial experience in animation, feature film, or television production
  • High level of proficiency in Avid Media Composer
  • Strong storytelling instincts with an understanding of cinematic pacing, performance, and visual continuity
  • Familiarity with animated feature and television production pipelines and workflows
  • Understanding of animation pre-production, production, and post-production processes
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across creative and production teams
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven production environment
  • Creative problem-solving skills and adaptability throughout evolving production needs

The anticipated base salary for this position is $3,232/week to $$4,500/week per year. This role qualifies for benefits pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement.The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors.
