This course explores frame-by-frame animation as an experimental, time-based studio practice that blurs boundaries between sculpture, performance, and moving image. Drawing on theories of visualization, materiality, and process, the course foregrounds improvisation, chance, and repetition over traditional narrative structures. Students construct temporary sets, objects, and lighting, using the camera as a tool to probe time, movement, and space. Projects emphasize site-specificity, installation contexts, and hybrid presentation formats, including multi-channel projection and object-based displays. In this course, stop motion becomes a laboratory for testing how images can capture, transform, and challenge the way we experience the world.
