Description de poste : 

Relevant du(de la) superviseur(e) Pipeline, du superviseur technique de l'animation, ainsi que du(de la) HOCA et des animateurs(trices) superviseur(e)s affecte(e)s a la production, l'Associe(e) directeur(trice) technique en animation (ATD Animation) participe a la creation, au developpement et au soutien continu d'un pipeline d'animation haut de gamme ainsi que de ses flux de travail.

Son principal mandat consiste a ameliorer l'efficacite et d'optimisation des flux de travail et des outils d'animation, ainsi qu'a concevoir des prototypes d'outils et d'utilitaires destines a soutenir l'equipe d'animation.

Il s'agit d'un poste axe sur le service, agissant comme lien entre les productions et le developpement. La personne titulaire du poste doit faire preuve d'une attitude proactive, collaborative, et orientee vers le soutien. Les candidat(e)s doivent demontrer une forte passion pour l'animation et l'infographie, ainsi qu'un interet marque pour la resolution creative de problemes afin de concretiser des visions artistiques.

Responsabilites :

  • Optimiser les flux de travail en animation grace a l'automatisation et a la definition des meilleures pratiques.
  • Collaborer avec les autres ATD Animation de production afin d'aider l'equipe a optimiser les scenes et a reduire la complexite des flux de travail.
  • Travailler avec les superviseur(e)s de l'animation afin de mettre en uvre de facon proactive des optimisations liees aux sequences ou aux actifs.
  • Developper et maintenir des scripts, des outils et des utilitaires destines a l'equipe d'animation.
  • Travailler dans le pipeline d'animation exclusif d'Imageworks et en assurer la comprehension.
  • Contribuer a la redaction de documentation et de materiel de formation lies aux outils et aux flux de travail.
  • Soutenir les artistes dans la resolution de problemes techniques a toutes les etapes du pipeline de production.
  • Collaborer etroitement avec le departement Pipeline afin d'evaluer et de soutenir les meilleures pratiques.
  • Reperer les inefficacites dans les flux de travail et collaborer avec les artistes et les equipes Pipeline afin de developper des scripts, des outils ou des systemes permettant de les ameliorer.

Communication :

  • Fournir des mises a jour regulieres aux superviseur(e)s de l'animation ainsi qu'au(a la) superviseur(e) Pipeline concernant l'avancement du travail et les defis rencontres en production.
  • Communiquer l'avancement des travaux et les enjeux a la direction de l'animation, a l'animateur(trice) technique superviseur(e) et a l'equipe de developpement en animation, tout en fournissant le contexte de production lorsque requis.
  • Participer activement aux canaux de soutien, aux presentations et aux reunions departementales afin de maintenir une comprehension approfondie des meilleures pratiques, des flux de travail et des outils utilises par l'equipe d'animation.
  • Collaborer avec les autres departements afin de gerer les dependances creatives et techniques.
  • Travailler etroitement avec les superviseur(e)s de l'animation afin de promouvoir les meilleures pratiques et de resoudre de facon proactive les problemes lies aux sequences ou aux actifs.

Qualifications :

  • Interet marque pour le developpement visuel, le cinema, l'animation et l'infographie en general (atout).
  • Bonne connaissance de Maya. Une connaissance d'Unreal Engine et de Houdini constitue un atout.
  • Experience en programmation Python.
  • Connaissance du C++ (atout).
  • Excellentes aptitudes en resolution de problemes et en relations interpersonnelles.
  • Connaissance de Bash, cShell et Linux.
  • Experience avec les systemes de partage de code et de gestion de versions (atout).
  • Experience avec Docker ou d'autres systemes de distribution logicielle.
  • Connaissances ou experience de base comme artiste 2D ou 3D (atout).
  • Diplome universitaire de premier ou de deuxieme cycle en informatique (atout).

Summary
Reporting to the Pipeline Supervisor and Technical Supervising Animator, as well as the HOCA and Supervising Animators on their designated production, an Animation Associate Technical Director (Anim ATD) will be involved in the creation, development and ongoing support of a high-end animation pipeline and pipeline workflows.
Their main focus is improved efficiency and optimization of animation workflows and tools, as well as prototyping tools, and utilities to support the animation team.
This is a service-oriented role, working between productions and development, and the Anim ATD should have a helpful, proactive and accommodating personality. Candidates should have a strong passion for animation and computer graphics, bringing artistic visions to life with a focus on creative problem solving.

Role Specifics

  • Optimize animation workflows by leveraging automation and defining best practices.
  • Work alongside other show anim ATDs to assist the team in optimizing and reducing scene or workflow complexities.
  • Coordinate with the Supervising Animators to proactively implement optimizations for sequences or assets.
  • Develop and maintain scripts, tools and utilities for the animation team.
  • Work in and understand the Imageworks' proprietary animation pipeline.
  • Help author tool or workflow specific training materials.
  • Assist artists with technical issues anywhere in the production pipeline.
  • Work closely with the pipeline department to evaluate and support best practices.
  • Identify workflow inefficiencies and work with artists and the pipeline teams to build scripts, tools and/or systems to improve them.

Communication

  • Provide regular updates to the Supervising Animators and Pipeline Supervisor on progress, and challenges on the production. 
  • Communicate progress and challenges to the Animation HOD, Technical Supervising Animator, and animation development team, providing show context when needed.
  • Actively participate in support chats, spotlights and department meetings, ensuring a broad understanding of best practices, workflows and tools in the animation team.
  • Collaborate with other departments to address creative and technical dependencies.
  • Work closely with the Supervising Animators on best practices and proactively help them solve sequence or asset related issues

Qualifications

  • Strong interest in Visual Development, Film, Animation and general computer graphics is a plus
  • Good Knowledge of Maya. Unreal Engine and Houdini are a plus.
  • Programming experience in Python.
  • C++ experience is a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Bash/cshell/Linux knowledge.
  • Experience in code-sharing, revision control is a plus.
  • Experience with Docker or other software distribution systems.
  • Some basic knowledge or experience as a 3D or 2D artist is a plus.
  • Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Computing Science a plus.
  • Individuals with a growth mindset eager to learn, ask questions, and unafraid to try, fail, and iterate.
  • Confident in their abilities and knowledge, yet open to feedback and seeking improvement.
