Job Description

We are currently hiring an Animal Technician in Durham, NC to support daily laboratory animal care and facility operations. This role is critical in maintaining animal health, welfare, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily animal husbandry (feeding, watering, enrichment, cage cleaning)
  • Monitor animal health and report concerns
  • Maintain strict adherence to SOPs and animal welfare guidelines (IACUC, AAALAC)
  • Conduct cleaning and sanitation of animal rooms and equipment
  • Perform euthanasia procedures as trained (per AVMA guidelines)
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Assist with inventory and supply management
  • Support equipment monitoring and report malfunctions
  • Follow all safety, PPE, and contamination control procedures

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to animal dander, odors, and varying temperatures
  • Use of PPE (Tyvek suits, respirators, gloves, etc.)
  • Physically demanding (lifting up to 50 lbs, standing long hours, bending, stooping)
  • Shower-in/shower-out requirements for biocontainment
  • No jewelry or personal devices allowed in work areas

Qualifications:

  • Associateโ€™s Degree required
  • Lab animal, veterinary, or agricultural experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
