Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Animal Support Technician II to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in South San Francisco, CA.  

The Animal Support Technician II is a full-time, dedicated floater role that provides coverage and support across multiple client sites in the South San Francisco area. This role is responsible for maintaining and monitoring the health, production, and physical environment within animal care facilities. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily animal health observations and routine husbandry, including feeding, watering, cage changing/cleaning, and equipment checks.
  • Provide species‑appropriate environmental enrichment.
  • Maintain accurate animal health, breeding, and housing records.
  • Assist with animal handling and restraint.
  • Receive, inspect, and house incoming animals.
  • Operate and maintain equipment, including cage wash and autoclaves.
  • Perform routine facility sanitation and general housekeeping.
  • Assist with inventory management and supply stocking.
  • May support/perform basic technical procedures, including:
      • fasting, body weights, food and water measurements
      • post‑surgical observations
      • animal identification (ear notching, tattooing, microchip)
      • set up breeding pairs, performing plug checks, conduct weaning and collect samples for genotyping
  • Train to perform rodent dosing techniques, including oral (PO), intraperitoneal (IP), subcutaneous (SQ), and topical administration.
  • Interact with clients and team members to support daily operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following are minimum requirements related to the ASTII position; you must have one of the following:

    • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Life Sciences or related field and one (1) experience in animal husbandry and/or technical experience in lab animal research facility.
    • High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) and two (2) year related animal husbandry and/or technical experience in lab animal research facility.
  •  
  • In addition: 
    • Must have valid driver license
    • Reliable form of transportation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician level (LAT).

Schedule:  Monday-Friday  7:00 AM-3:30 PM. Must be available some weekends and holidays. 
 

The hourly range for this position is $32.00-$36.00. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
