Do you have animal care experience and enjoy helping both pets and people? We're looking for a compassionate, reliable, hands-on animal advocate who wants to make a difference every day. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and have a heart for animal welfare, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Do
As a Foster Assistant, you'll support Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control's foster and transport programs by helping animals receive the care, attention, and placement opportunities they need while they wait for a foster home, rescue placement, or adoption.
Key Responsibilities
- Match animals with foster homes and support foster volunteers throughout the process.
- Administer basic medications, vaccines, and treatments while monitoring animal health.
- Document animal behavior, medical care, and foster information in shelter software.
- Transport animals to rescue partners, foster homes, and adoption locations.
- Assist with daily animal care, adoptions, and shelter operations as needed.
What You Bring
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least one year of experience working with animals.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Compassion for animals and a commitment to their well-being.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Driver's License.
- Experience in animal care, veterinary, rescue, kennel, shelter, or foster environments.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn shelter management software.
