Job description

Overview Agency Summary The purpose and mission of Animal Care Services is advocating animal welfare, adoption, and rescue. The agency does this by protecting and promoting the health, safety, and welfare of pets and livestock in Marion County. The agency is able to do this by cultivating a productive, collaborative, and compliant work environment in order for our workforce to meet the needs of the constituents of Indianapolis and Marion County.

Job Summary Position is responsible for the day-to-day care and treatment of the animals that are brought to the shelter. Position will perform duties pertaining to kennel maintenance, custodial responsibilities, and maintaining a disease-free environment for animals at the facility. Interacts with the public, fellow staff, community service, and volunteers professionally and with exceptional customer service.

Is expected to work safely and maintain a consistency with ACCD vision and mission statements and beliefs, policy, and procedures. Must be able to obtain/maintain Euthanasia Certification from the Humane Society of the United States. Position Responsibilities Provides enrichment and socialization for dogs and cats.

Responsible for Kennel maintenance. Cleans and disinfects the kennels. Responsible for feeding and direct care of animals.

Moves animals within the facility. Responsible for custodial duties. Communicates appropriate information to the public.

Follows standard operating procedures. Handles animals properly. This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.

Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Must be able to handle, control, and load animals in excess of 50 lbs and perform manual labor. Ability to work from general instructions and safely operate all related equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks.

May be required to work overtime which includes holidays and weekends. Must be able to communicate both in oral and written format. Working Conditions Work is performed in a kennel area where the incumbent is exposed to dust, noise, bending, lifting, and other hazards of a kennel environment.
