Job description

Job Summary The City of Baytown Animal Shelter is seeking a compassionate Animal Kennel Technician to ensure the health, comfort, and well-being of the animals in our care. You'll maintain a clean, safe environment-cleaning kennels, providing food and water, monitoring for signs of illness, and helping prepare animals for their forever homes. Ideal candidates are kind, reliable, and ready to support a hardworking team that values humane treatment and community impact.

If you love animals and want to make a difference, we'd love to meet you. The Animal Kennel Technician promotes care for sheltered animals. Must not be allergic to animals and be able to work all assigned shifts.

Treats animals with kindness and respect to ensure animals are socially ready for adoption. Duties Maintains proper sanitation according to department standards by cleaning animal cages, walls, windows, and flooring. Sanitizes as required.

Shows adoptable animals for potential adoptions. Observes animals and reports any signs of illness, distress, or safety issues. Ensures all animals have adequate food and water by replenishing supplies.

Ensures all adoptable animals are properly identified with tags, collars, and correct cage cards. Keeps outside exercise areas free of solid waste. Operates washers and dryers to clean laundry.

Exercises animals by taking them to exercise areas. Help as needed with the check-in of new animals and inspection. Follow proper safety measures and procedures when using chemicals and cleaning supplies.

Assist other employees, citizens and volunteers when required. Maintain and clean storage areas. Provides humane treatment to all animals.

Performs all other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Required: High School Diploma or GED. Reliable transportation.

Ability to read, write and understand and follow oral and written instructions. Preferred: Current Animal Shelter work or Animal Volunteer work as related. A minimum of 6 months of Animal Control or Environmental Health experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to exercise good public relations skills. Ability to handle animals without harm to them, others, or self. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.
