Minimum Qualifications

Four years of experience in research farming or in farm management; OR

Five years of experience in farming; OR

Twenty-four semester hours in an agricultural, plant science, or animal science field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

As a Research Farm Manager 1, you will have the following job duties:

  • Greenhouse and Facility Management Supervises daily operations of all greenhouse complexes, headhouses, storage areas, and support structures. Manage allocation of greenhouse space for research and teaching activities. Oversee construction, renovation, and major repair projects in coordination with Facilities Planning. (30%)

  • Equipment and Systems Oversight: Operates, maintains, and repairs greenhouse equipment and environmental control systems. (30%)

  • Procurement and Budget Management: Purchase supplies, equipment, and materials necessary for greenhouse functions. Maintain inventory control systems for supplies and equipment. Assist in budget planning and monitors expenditures to ensure efficient resource use. Provide monthly invoices containing greenhouse facility and consumable usage by research faculty and departments. (20%)

  • Grounds and Physical Plant Management: Oversee pest management and environmental controls. Maintains greenhouse sanitation and biosecurity standards. (15%)

  • Compliance and Safety: Implements and enforces safety procedures across all greenhouse and operational activities. Ensures compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations. Maintains records related to safety, inspections, and operational compliance. (5%)

Position-Specific Details:

  • Appointment Type: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.

  • Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, M-F, with the potential for some weekend work.

  • Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

  • Location: Central Research Station, Baton Rouge, La.

  • This position is not eligible for remote employment.
