Job description

Are you someone who has a passion for leading, motivating, and maintaining a high standard of business excellence?ย  While main responsibilities focus on the management of Site Operations, including multiple departments involved in the production of Taconicโ€™s animals, which is a critical responsibility to achieve customers satisfaction, they mustย facilitateย cross functional teamwork and collaboration between all business areasย locatedย at the site to be successful.ย 

The Location:ย Taconic Biosciences is seeking a Director of Animal Production to lead our dedicated operations team at the Cambridge City, IN site.ย 
Relocation Assistance: Relocation assistance may be available for the selected candidate based on qualifications, experience, and geographic location.

The Pay Range: $120,000 - $150,000 annual salary. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors. These factors include geographic location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions and could exceed the advertised salary range, however, please note that the upper end of the range is not guaranteed to be offered.ย 
The Schedule:ย Monday - Friday, core business hours.ย

The Role:
The Director for Animal Production is the highest authorityย locatedย at the site. Theyย representย the executive leadership team of the company. As aย leader you must be able to work with top management and align at a strategic level, while also being able to translate that strategy to meaningful plans and actions for all levels of the team on site.ย ย You must be well versed inย Best-In-classย Operations and have the ability to drive improvement and development of current practices to higher levels of performance.ย ย 
Core Responsibilities:

  • Represent top management at the site and guarantee adherence to business commitments, applicable rules and regulations and Taconicโ€™s culture and values.ย ย 

  • Develop andย maintainย a positive and engaging working environment for all direct and indirect reports atย site.ย ย 

  • Develop (in alignment with EHS) and implement all safety rules and processes needed toย assureย team-memberโ€™sย health and safety.ย 

  • Drive high quality results and customerย satisfaction,ย by ensuring adherence to process specifications and quality standards.ย 

  • Allocate resources to effectivelyย operateย production at the site, making sure volume and time commitments are achieved according to plan andย customerโ€™sย needs.ย 

  • Control expenses and cost according to budget and in alignment to sales level, to achieve the companyโ€™s EBITDA commitments.ย 

  • Promote animal welfare in alignment with Quality groups and internal and external regulations.ย 

  • Build integral strategies and procedural understanding with internal partners to achieve KPIs while managingย effectsย of new strategies within operations and accounting.ย 

  • Provide technicalย expertise, vision, and leadership for the development of all subordinate operations, which will have a significant and substantial impact on the viability and profitability of these departments.ย ย 

  • Work with stakeholders to develop strategic capacity solutions specific to the product and services offeredย 

  • Lead change management project and continuous improvement initiatives to develop and transform the site to Best-In-Class results in all Operationโ€™s principles (People, safety, quality, Service, Cost & Animal welfare)ย 

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, or technical/managerial experience at an equivalent level.ย 
  • Experience in a wide range of principles andย methodologyย ofย a specialized professional field. Skill in designing,ย implementingย and coordinating assignments, operations, and/or programs. Experience in making decisions or recommendations significantly developing or changing organizational policies or procedures. Requires supervisory or middle management experience. 8-10 years of relevant experience and/or training including:ย 

  • ย Working closely to EHS, Quality, Maintenance, Production Planningย 

  • Good understanding of financial statements and COGS.ย ย 

  • Tracking ofย success metrics and project plans. (People turnover, TRIR, Customer Complaints, Qualityย Non-Conformances, Production Attainment, On time and Complete customer deliveries, COGS,ย etc)ย 

  • Managingย cross functionalย teams.ย ย 

  • Building collaborative relationships across functions.ย 

  • Developing, leading, &ย implementing,ย projects.ย 

  • Able to see the big picture as well as the details and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization (front line to CEO).ย ย 

  • Change management. Inspire and lead change with a Servant Leadership style.ย 
  • Six Sigma certification preferred, but not required
