Job description:

Overview
We are seeking an Adoption Coordinator for our no-kill, non-profit animal shelter. The shelter has approximately 100 cats and 22 dogs at any given time (most of the animals are at the shelter but there also are some in foster). The ideal candidate will have a passion for animals and animal welfare, some knowledge of veterinary medicine, be very organized. and have very good communication and interpersonal skills.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Screen adoption applications in accordance with The Animal Haven procedures and protocols to ensure suitable matches between animals and adopters
  • Schedule appointments with approved potential adopters to meet the animals at the shelter and conduct meet and greets
  • Participate in open house events and outreach programs
  • Conduct home visits when necessary
  • Promote the adoption of the shelter's animals through social media, community events, and other marketing channels
  • Maintain accurate records of adoption applications, approvals, and follow-up communications
  • Enter all relevant information into the shelter's Shelter Manager database
  • Provide information and resources to potential adopters regarding animal care and adoption procedures
  • Handle inquiries and provide exceptional customer service to potential adopters
  • Facilitate the resolution of any post-adoption issues or concerns
  • Work with volunteers and staff to ensure a smooth adoption process
  • Assist in the development and implementation of adoption policies and procedures
  • Respond to social media messages 
  • Answer the reception phone and the staff cell phone and redirect calls to the appropriate person
  • Listen to voicemails from the main line and the cell phone and redirect to the appropriate person
  • Assist management with any administrative duties they may need help with
  • Walk the dogs as time permits
Requirements
  • Previous experience working in animal shelters or rescue organizations preferred
  • Strong understanding of animal behavior and welfare
  • Ability to handle cats and dogs, including bigger dogs, to conduct meet and greets and show the animals to potential adopters
  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Social Work, or related field preferred
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle high-stress situations
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal animal adoption laws and regulations preferred
  • Experience with database management and record-keeping (Shelter Manager preferred)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Passion for animal welfare and commitment to ethical adoption practices
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office

  • 11 a.m. to 7 p.m Tuesday through Thursday, Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 11 p.m. 7 p.m.
