Job description

Job Opportunity: Gastroenterology Section Chief

Our organization is actively looking for a full-time Section Chief for Gastroenterology to become a vital part of our team at Riverside University Health System. We encourage candidates with a background in General Gastroenterology to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and oversee the Gastroenterology Division at RUHS, focusing on:
    • Endoscopy services
    • Outpatient and inpatient clinical operations
    • Teaching and educational initiatives
    • Research activities
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Gastroenterology at our affiliated university to achieve institutional goals.
  • Maintain a mix of clinical responsibilities, including inpatient coverage alongside outpatient endoscopy and clinic duties.
  • Enjoy the convenience of on-site facilities for clinic, endoscopy, and office work, eliminating the need for commuting.
  • Benefit from dedicated time each week for professional development and leadership training during outpatient weeks.
  • Engage actively in the education of fellows, residents, and students.
Team and Environment

The Gastroenterology Division at RUHS comprises three physicians and four advanced practice providers, with a strong emphasis on community-based care in areas such as:

  • General GI
  • Pancreatic biliary
  • Third space endoscopy
  • Hepatology
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
  • Motility disorders

Our work environment is collegial and productive, with a strong focus on patient care and education. We are equipped with advanced technologies, including:

  • GI Genius
  • Capsule Endoscopy
  • Manometry, including Endo Flip
  • Smart Pill and BRAVO capabilities
  • A fleet of Olympus 190s, including EUS and ERCP scopes

We also have established capabilities in Interventional Gastroenterology, such as:

  • POEM
  • Endoscopic suturing
  • ESD
  • Spyglass
  • Hybrid APC

Onsite research support is available for both clinical and population-based studies, including randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Additionally, dedicated anesthesia coverage is provided.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to serving underserved populations and will primarily work at the RUHS location. For those with administrative expertise, there may be opportunities for leadership roles in academic settings or GI endoscopy operations. Our hospital administration is highly supportive, and our clinical partners foster a collaborative atmosphere. The system is dedicated to meeting the needs of productive physicians.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary for this position ranges from $475,000 to $550,000. This figure does not encompass additional compensation for inpatient call during weekdays and weekends, e-consults, or specialized clinics. Productivity bonuses exceeding the base WRVU target are distributed bi-annually, and data on procedure volumes is readily available. Additional compensation may be offered for candidates who qualify for leadership roles as mentioned earlier. Detailed discussions regarding compensation will occur during the recruitment process, allowing for a tailored package based on the candidate's interests.
