CAAs and CRNAs are highly skilled health professionals who work under the direction of licensed anesthesiologists to implement anesthesia care plans. Anesthetists work exclusively within the anesthesia care team environment as described by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). All Anesthetists  possess a premedical background, a baccalaureate degree, and also complete a comprehensive didactic and clinical program at the graduate school level. Anesthetists are trained extensively in the delivery and maintenance of quality anesthesia care as well as advanced patient monitoring techniques. The goal of Anesthetist education is to guide the transformation of qualified student applicants into competent health care practitioners who aspire to practice in the anesthesia care team.


Certified Anesthesia Assistant

  1. Holds current active state licensure as an Anesthesiologist Assistant in the state of Georgia and complies with any applicable state statutory and regulatory requirements concerning CAA’s.
  2. Graduate of a Master’s degree in Anesthesia
  3. Insurable by an appropriate medical malpractice insurer for the limits required by this institution or state.
  4. Demonstrates current competency in the clinical responsibilities.
  5. Ability to perform clinically as an anesthetist in the facility setting on a regular basis.
  6. Ability to operate, use, and interpret data from a wide variety of equipment to perform anesthesia care as well as necessary perioperative or operating room care to support the safety and wellbeing of the patient while they are under the direct care of the CAA.
  7. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively collaborate with various clinical staff and other disciplines.
  8. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served.
  9. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
  10. Knowledge of infection prevention and control techniques.
  11. Ability to maintain confidential records.
  12. Ability to implement and adhere to facility policies and procedures.

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

  1. Holds current active state licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Georgia and complies with any applicable state statutory and regulatory requirements concerning CRNAs.
  2. Graduate of a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs or its predecessor.
  3. Is currently certified or recertified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
  4. Insurable by an appropriate medical malpractice insurer for the limits required by this institution or state.
  5. Demonstrates current competency in the clinical responsibilities.
  6. Ability to perform clinically as a nurse anesthetist in the facility setting on a regular basis.
  7. Ability to operate, use, and interpret data from a wide variety of equipment to perform anesthesia care as well as necessary perioperative or operating room care to support the safety and wellbeing of the patient while they are under the direct care of the CRNA.
