Job description

Job Title: Senior IT Project Manager Overview / Summary

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to provide oversight, leadership, accountability, and project management for large, high-visibility strategic projects and programs. This role manages complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, vendor participation, executive-level communication, and long-term project planning while ensuring alignment with the State of Michigan's SUITE Project Management Methodology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage executive-level engagement with stakeholders and vendors, dedicating approximately 15 20% of time to high-level project oversight, stakeholder alignment, and leading monthly sponsor meetings with project health updates.
  • Establish and monitor project controls to ensure timely awareness of changes affecting project cost, quality, or schedule.
  • Provide project planning, staffing, and reporting throughout the full project lifecycle, from initiation through closeout, in accordance with the State of Michigan's SUITE Project Management Methodology and the Agency's project prioritization process.
  • Direct and coordinate the day-to-day activities, tasks, and deliverables of the project team in accordance with the project plan.
  • Perform miscellaneous functions as needed to support the overall operation and objectives of the Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB).
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience working effectively in team environments within matrix organizations.
  • 5+ years of experience resolving complex, high-priority conflicts and competing requirements.
  • 5+ years of experience with data infrastructure concepts and data governance fundamentals.
  • 5+ years of experience applying Project Management principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • 5+ years of experience with system development methodologies for building new systems and enhancing existing information systems.
  • 5+ years of experience working with data communications and information systems hardware and software concepts and operating principles.
  • 5+ years of experience communicating stakeholder needs clearly and effectively.
  • 5+ years of experience analyzing data, identifying problems, and developing actionable solutions.
  • 5+ years of experience conducting training sessions and facilitating informational workshops.
  • 5+ years of experience communicating across teams, building consensus, facilitating working sessions, and negotiating outcomes.
  • 5+ years of experience managing stakeholder relationships, maintaining positive interactions, and resolving issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a government or public sector environment.
  • Experience in multiple relevant roles such as Project Manager, Program Manager, Project Coordinator, or similar leadership/support roles.
