The Opportunity

The Portfolio Analytics Associate Director is a key contributor towards operational effectiveness and efficiency leveraging technology-based solutions to streamline efficiencies, enable insightful program-level reporting, and support the reduction of investment and operational risk. This role sits within Barings Portfolio Finance's Portfolio Analytics team, a team responsible for Data & Analytics, Operational Infrastructure, Management Reporting, Track Record, and Credit Modeling. The role operates at the intersection of finance and technology and serves as a key liaison with various internal partners.

The Team

The team is small, close-knit, and highly collaborative. Team members are motivated by a shared goal to originate attractive investment opportunities for third-party clients while addressing the unique financing needs of our customers. The team is primarily focused on originating investment-grade, senior secured loans to asset managers and the investment vehicles that they manage across a range of asset classes, including private equity, private credit, and real estate debt. The loans, directly originated by the Portfolio Finance team, are highly negotiated, and often involve complex structuring across various global jurisdictions. The team has originated over $38 billion in private investments since 2017 and recently transitioned to Barings from MassMutual.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine data cleansing/pre-processing and automate data transformation processes.
  • Critically evaluate information provided from multiple sources - both internal and external - and reconcile discrepancies to ensure sound data quality.
  • Participate in technology/automation initiatives to drive streamlined integration with internal partners, borrowers, investors, and third-party vendors.
  • Support with maintenance of BPF's proprietary portfolio monitoring database and assess data quality & integrity on a continuous basis.
  • Identify various process improvement solutions and support with development of predictive analytic capabilities.
  • Produce (and automate where possible) regularly scheduled and ad-hoc management reports to enable decision making for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assess new investor reporting requirements and support ongoing delivery.
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret financial data and uncover trends within large/complex data sets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (business and/or data science/analytics related) with 5 - 8+ years of experience in data management within a financial context; solid financial acumen.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with analytic tools and programming languages (Python/R, and SQL with VBA a plus).
  • Excellent command and proficiency of MS excel.
  • Solid understanding of relational database management systems.

  • Willingness to learn and absorb complex lending structures and legal documents and translate economic and risk factors to financial models and tools used to manage the overall portfolio.
  • Demonstrated interest in and experience with operational enablement through technology.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, well-organized, self-starter, and able to multitask and deliver work products on short timeframes.
  • Clear, confident communication with stakeholders.
  • Control focused and attentive to detail.
