The American Nurses Enterprise (ANE) seeks a Nurse Scientist to lead and support a highly skilled, high-performing team of up to two direct reports.

This role is essential to advancing ANE’s research strategy and aligning scholarly efforts across the Enterprise and its subsidiaries, including the American Nurses Association (ANA), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and American Nurses Foundation.

What You Will Do:

Research and Scientific Leadership

  • Design, lead, and implement rigorous nursing research protocols across the ANE, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Serve as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on funded and unfunded research initiatives aligned with the ANE Strategic Plan and Research Advisory Council priorities, including areas such as the value of nursing, credentialing outcomes, workforce dynamics, and evidence-based innovation.
  • Lead and contribute to collaborative research initiatives and engage internal and external stakeholders to advance strategic priorities.
  • Acts as internal advisor to program staff on research-related processes and procedures to maintain and enhance the scientific foundations of ANCC’s credentialing programs. Directs a range of Program support activities and initiatives such as coordinating rater reliability studies; initiating multi-site research opportunities for credentialed organizations; developing program content for the annual Research Symposium; conducting analyses of Program-generated data to inform Program decisions; and summarizing research literature relevant to credentialing.
  • Drive the development of competitive grant proposals, contributing to funding acquisition and sustainability of the research portfolio.
  • Lead the analysis of complex datasets and translate findings into high-impact scholarly products, including peer-reviewed publications, policy briefs, and national/international presentations.
  • Support strategic partnerships with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, and policy stakeholders to advance collaborative research.
  • Represent the Institute in national and international research forums, advisory groups, and thought leadership initiatives, elevating the visibility and influence of ANE research.
  • Provide scientific leadership and mentorship to internal teams, fostering a culture of inquiry, rigor, and innovation.
  • Lead scholarly dissemination and drive post-publication engagement to maximize the reach, visibility, and impact of research findings.
  • Precepts DNP and PhD doctoral students.

What you bring to the American Nurses Enterprise:

Education

  • Doctoral Degree (Ph. D.) or equivalent, and unincumbered registered nurse

Related Work Experience:

  • Minimum five (5) years of post-doctoral research or equivalent experience in health services, nursing workforce, or applied clinical research.
  • Demonstrated success in grant writing and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Familiarity with the design and implementation of multi-site research protocols

Certificates, licenses and registrations required:

  • Licensure: Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the U.S.
  • Certification: ANCC professional nursing certification preferred; research certification considered within 2 years of hire.
  • Knowledge of MS365 Suite is required.
  • Other databases across the ANCC preferred.

Other skills required:

  • Strong research design expertise (quantitative, including big data research, qualitative, and mixed methods).
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of health policy, nursing workforce trends, and credentialing frameworks.
  • Ability to build consensus and lead collaborative initiatives.
  • Familiarity with ANCC accreditation standards.
  • Flexibility in working with multiple teams, strong collaboration skills, time management and prioritization of multiple projects.
  • Occasional travel required (approximately 10–15%) for meetings, conferences, and ANE events.
