How much do analog design jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 17, 2026, the average yearly pay for analog design in the United States is $186,238.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $202,000.00 and $202,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is the salary of an analog design engineer?

The salary of an analog design engineer typically ranges from $80,000 to $130,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Senior engineers with specialized skills or certifications can earn higher compensation, often exceeding $150,000 per year.

Can AI replace an analog design engineer?

AI can assist analog design engineers by automating routine tasks and optimizing circuit parameters, but it currently cannot fully replace the expertise, creativity, and judgment required for complex analog circuit design. Analog design involves understanding physical phenomena and making nuanced decisions that require human insight. Therefore, the role of an analog design engineer remains essential, with AI serving as a tool to enhance productivity and accuracy.

Is analog layout design a good career?

Analog layout design is a specialized field within electronic engineering focused on creating physical layouts for analog circuits, requiring skills in CAD tools and understanding of circuit behavior. It offers steady demand in industries like semiconductor and consumer electronics, with career growth driven by technological advancements and the need for high-performance analog components.

What is the difference between Analog Design vs Digital Design?

Analog Design focuses on creating circuits that process continuous signals, essential for sensors and audio applications. Digital Design involves designing circuits that handle discrete signals, such as microprocessors and digital logic. Both roles require electrical engineering knowledge but differ in their focus, tools, and applications.

What do analog designers do?

Analog designers develop and optimize circuits that process continuous signals, such as amplifiers, filters, and voltage regulators. They use electronic design automation tools and have expertise in semiconductor physics, circuit theory, and component selection to ensure precise signal handling and performance. Their work is essential in creating reliable electronic devices and systems.

What are analog design engineers?

Analog design engineers are professionals who specialize in creating and optimizing electronic circuits that use continuous voltage or current signals, as opposed to digital signals. They work on components such as amplifiers, filters, oscillators, and power management circuits, often for applications in communications, audio, sensors, and power electronics. Their role involves designing schematics, simulating circuit behavior, selecting components, and ensuring the circuit meets performance and reliability standards. Analog design engineers play a crucial role in developing products where signal integrity and low noise are essential.

What are some common challenges faced by analog design engineers when working on mixed-signal projects?

Analog design engineers often encounter challenges when integrating analog and digital components within mixed-signal projects. These challenges include managing noise coupling between analog and digital circuits, ensuring signal integrity, and maintaining power efficiency. Collaboration with digital design and layout teams is essential to address these issues, as careful floorplanning and shielding techniques are often required. Additionally, analog designers must frequently validate their designs through simulation and silicon testing, which can add complexity to project schedules.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Analog Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Analog Design Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, circuit theory, and semiconductor fundamentals, often supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency with EDA tools such as Cadence, SPICE simulation software, and experience with lab measurement equipment are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills help engineers excel in collaborative and innovative environments. These skills ensure accurate circuit designs, efficient troubleshooting, and effective teamwork, which are crucial for developing reliable analog systems.
