Circuit of The Americas (COTA) is a 365-entertainment destination for world-class events located in Austin, TX. The sports and entertainment portfolio at COTA is unmatched in the country with Formula 1 US Grand Prix, NASCAR and MotoGP attracting global fans during championship races on the famed Circuit and Live Nation producing over 30 headline concerts every year at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater. COTALAND is an amusement park with over 30 attractions and experiences, including first-of-their-kind roller coasters.

The COTALAND Safety Department is searching for a motivated Safety Specialist that is interested in promoting a safe environment for all guest, employees, and contractors/vendors throughout COTALAND and the COTA property. This position reports to COTALAND's Sr. Manager of EHS. As a Safety Specialist at COTALAND you will be able to support COTA's safety management system by conducting routine inspections, investigating incidents, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a culture of safety across all departments. 


Requirements & Essential Functions:

  • Complete accident investigations to determine root cause and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct and/or assist with routine inspections throughout the COTALAND property to ensure that all departments are compliant with OSHA/ASTM/ANSI/NFPA regulations.
  • Ensure that AEDs and first aid stations are ready for operation and properly stocked. 
  • Assist departments with risk assessments and mitigation strategies. 
  • Deliver safety trainings as needed for various positions. 
  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills; can effectively communicate in a positive manner with COTALAND guests, employees, and contractors/vendors.
  • Ability to appropriately manage confidential and sensitive information. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the business. This could include opening, midday, evening shifts, and possible weekend shifts. 
  • Strong analytical aptitude.
  • Embraces change and fresh perspectives; learns from past mistakes and adjusts accordingly.
  • Can be trusted to act in a manner that is truthful and values direct, honest communication.


Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year experience with a thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety within a hospitality or entertainment environment. 
  • Ability to work as a team across multiple departments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • College Degree preferred in the topics of Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, Emergency Management, or other related field. 
  • Previous experience in an Amusement Park. 


Physical Demand:

  • Ability to sit and complete desk work for long periods. 
  • Ability to lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to squat, bend, twist, push/pull.
  • Ability to stand/walk for long periods.
  • Work in extreme environments outdoors throughout the year.


Work Environment:


COTALAND is an outdoor environment that spans over 30 acres, and is filled with rides, merchandise, and food/beverage establishments. Majority of the work will be completed outdoors in which you can be exposed to various weather conditions such as wet or humid conditions, cold or hot temperatures, and other outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate due to ride operations, music, and guest interactions.
