What is an amphitheater?

An amphitheater is an open-air venue with a central space for performances, surrounded by rising tiers of seats for spectators. Traditionally, amphitheaters were used in ancient Greece and Rome for entertainment such as gladiator games, dramas, and public events. They can be either natural formations or man-made structures, and are popular for their immersive audience experience.

About Us
Stagehands are an essential part of the production team at Hayden Homes Amphitheater, supporting concerts, comedy shows, and live events throughout the season. Working behind the scenes, stagehands help ensure that each event is executed efficiently, safely, and on time.
Job Overview
As a Stagehand, you'll provide hands-on production support for live events, assisting with load-ins, load-outs, set changes, and general stage operations. Work assignments vary by show and tour requirements and may include load-in only, load-out only, or split shifts with a break between calls.
Stagehands are venue employees and report to the Stage Crew Chief, who works closely with the Production Manager. This role requires physical stamina, the ability to follow direction, strong teamwork, and a professional approach to backstage work.
Responsibilities
• Assist with load-in and load-out of staging, audio, lighting, and production equipment
• Support on-stage and backstage set changes as directed
• Provide general production support to venue production staff and touring crews
• Lift, carry, move, and position equipment and materials safely
• Follow direction from the Stage Crew Chief, Stage Manager, and production leadership
• Work efficiently as part of a crew to meet tight production timelines
• Maintain a professional work environment backstage and on stage
• Follow Hayden Homes Amphitheater protocols and all safety procedures
Required Qualifications
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Ability to perform physically demanding work in a fast-paced environment safely
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow direction
• Strong awareness of surroundings and attention to detail
• Ability to remain focused and professional during high-pressure situations
• Willingness to work variable schedules, including split shifts
Preferred Experience
• Previous stagehand or live event experience is preferred but not required
• Training is available for individuals with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift and carry 50-75 pounds, with occasional heavier loads as needed
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work on your feet for extended periods
• Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks throughout a shift
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to work in environments with loud noise, low lighting, and active equipment
Schedule
• Part-time, seasonal, show-by-show employment
• Shifts vary by event and may include load-in, load-out, or split shifts
• Hours are not guaranteed and depend on event schedule and production needs
What to Expect Working Here
It is essential that all employees at Hayden Homes Amphitheater understand and agree to the environment in which we work. We are an outdoor, seasonal concert venue, and our team regularly works in a wide range of conditions including extreme heat and cold, rain, smoke, snow, wind, full sun, nighttime darkness, and the presence of wildlife such as insects and other animals. These elements are a normal part of our workplace. We provide a uniform, but employees are responsible for dressing appropriately for comfort and safety in all conditions. While our workplace happens to host concerts, this role is a job first, and employees are expected to remain focused on their responsibilities and may have little opportunity to experience performances. If you strongly prefer indoor work environments or are primarily seeking access to shows, this role is not the right fit.
Employment with Hayden Homes Amphitheater is seasonal and concludes at the end of each concert season. Due to the dynamic nature of the live events industry, roles, schedules, pay, responsibilities, and supervisors may change from season to season and are not guaranteed upon venue reopening.
At Hayden Homes Amphitheater, we believe great shows come from great people. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status. Everyone deserves a chance to be part of the show.
