The Digital Risk Products & Data Strategy (RPDS) team within CFR is the backbone of all risk decisions and help in building the digital software products for risk management across customer lifecycle i.e., Onboarding, Credit Underwriting, Authorizations, Collections across card & non card business globally.

Job Description:

We are seeking a Product Manager to lead the end-to-end product strategy, execution, and delivery of new features for risk decisioning platform products with a focus on scalability, resilience, performance, and developer productivity. This role is responsible for defining product requirements, aligning cross-functional stakeholders, and ensuring successful implementation of platform modernization initiatives 

The ideal candidate has experience with large-scale platform modernization, risk/authorization processes, and deep stakeholder management skills. This is a high-visibility role critical to the future of Amex's global authorization architecture.

The below represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required  in Engineering Preferred
  • 5-8+ years of Product Management experience, ideally in payments, risk systems, platform modernization, or large-scale technology transformation.
  • Proven experience driving cross-functional programs with complex dependencies.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into clear business requirements and communicate with both engineering and leadership stakeholders.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Data-oriented mindset with ability to define KPIs and use analytics to drive decision-making.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills

Preferred: 

  • Experience in payments networks, issuer/acquirer systems, or financial services risk domains.
  • Strong understanding of authorization flows, real-time decisioning, and risk management principles.
  • Demonstrated success improving system performance, scalability, and reliability

  • Knowledge of machine learning or real-time risk modeling pipelines.
  • Strong strategic thinking, influencing skills, and comfort operating in ambiguous environments.


Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.

  • Define the product vision, strategy, and multi-phase roadmap for platform modernization with focus on resiliency and scalability 
  • Identify modernization opportunities, including simplification, consolidation, performance improvements, and enhanced network-based risk decisioning.
  • Partner with Risk Technology, Network teams, Enterprise Architecture, and Data Strategy to shape long-term platform capabilities.
  • Develop detailed product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and success metrics for authorization and risk features.

  • Lead platform roadmap planning including dependency assessment, sequencing, change-management strategy, and operational readiness.
  • Drive execution through agile ceremonies, backlog prioritization, and release planning.
  • Partner closely with engineering leaders to ensure timely delivery, high quality, and adherence to architectural standards.
  • Coordinate functional tests, performance validation, and end-to-end readiness assessments.
  • Facilitate alignment across testing strategies ( UAT, E2E, Regression etc.)
  • Communicate progress, risks, and mitigation plans to senior leadership.
