Volunteer Board Member

American Red Cross West Michigan Chapter

Help advance the mission of the American Red Cross throughout West Michigan.

The American Red Cross West Michigan Chapter is seeking passionate community leaders to serve as Volunteer Board Members. This leadership opportunity allows individuals to use their expertise, influence, and community connections to support disaster relief, blood collection, volunteer engagement, fundraising, and other lifesaving Red Cross services throughout our 12-county region.

The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Through service on the Chapter Board, members help strengthen the organization's ability to deliver critical programs and services to communities across West Michigan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic advice, expertise, and community perspective to the Executive Director and chapter leadership.
  • Advocate for the Red Cross mission and increase awareness of programs and services throughout West Michigan.
  • Leverage professional and personal networks to support fundraising, volunteer recruitment, donor engagement, and blood collection efforts.
  • Serve on at least one board committee and actively participate in committee initiatives and outreach activities.
  • Collaborate with fellow board members, volunteers, and staff to support chapter priorities and mission delivery.
  • Participate in learning opportunities to better understand Red Cross services and community needs.
  • Assist in identifying and recruiting prospective board members who bring diverse experiences, expertise, and community connections.
  • Develop and implement an individual board engagement plan in partnership with chapter leadership.
  • Participate in board surveys and track volunteer service hours through Volunteer Connection.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to community service and humanitarian causes.
  • Strong professional, civic, or community leadership experience.
  • Ability to build relationships and engage community stakeholders.
  • Interest in supporting volunteerism, disaster response, blood services, and community resilience.

Time Commitment

  • Attend and actively participate in bi-monthly board meetings.
  • Serve on at least one chapter board committee.
  • Participate in outreach, advocacy, fundraising, and engagement activities throughout the year.

Eligibility

Candidates must reside within the West Michigan Chapter service area, including:

Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon, Oceana, Mason, Lake, Newaygo, Osceola, Mecosta, Montcalm, Ionia, or Barry County.
