Description:
American Express National Bank (AENB) is American Express' U.S. banking operation serving consumer and small business customers with payments, financing, and savings products. AENB accounts for more than 60% of the overall company's revenues and net income. AENB HQ drives the administration of programs and services provided by AENB, in partnership with the various businesses, functions and executive officers. The AENB COO Office also plays an enterprise role in driving greater consistency, effectiveness, and efficiency across the first line via its Strategic Planning, Control Management, Program Management, and Governance functions.
The Vice President, Enterprise Affiliate Management Center of Excellence (EAM COE) will provide executive leadership and strategic direction for Governance, Monitoring & Reporting, and Quality Assurance functions of the Enterprise Affiliate Management program. This leader will be responsible for driving the continued maturity of the affiliate management framework across AENB and American Express, ensuring adherence to governance processes that support transfer pricing, outsourcing governance, compliance with the American Express Policy on Third-Party Management, and compliance with the Interagency Guidance on Third-Party Relationships: Risk Management.
Strong attention to detail, risk management, leadership, collaboration, and communication skills are essential to succeed in this role, as it requires regular interaction with cross-functional teams, auditors, and regulatory supervisors. The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of affiliate management practices, governance, monitoring & reporting, quality assurance, and regulatory expectations, along with the ability to drive program maturity across the enterprise.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for the EAM COE, including the governance, monitoring & reporting, and quality assurance functions.
  • Establish the long-term strategy, operating model, and priorities for the EAM COE, ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives and regulatory expectations.
  • Serve as the executive relationship lead for American Express' international affiliates, partnering with senior leaders to strengthen strategic relationships and support enterprise objectives.
  • Provide executive governance processes, monitoring, reporting, and quality assurance activities to promote consistent execution of the affiliate management framework.
  • Lead responses to regulatory examinations, internal audits, and second-line reviews, ensuring effective governance and timely remediation of findings.
  • Partner with business leaders, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Finance, and Control Management to strengthen governance practices and maintain regulatory readiness.
  • Develop executive reporting and presentations for senior leadership, governance committees, auditors, and regulators.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance governance, reporting, operational effectiveness, and program capabilities.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain and promote the Blue Box Values by ensuring work is completed to the highest professional, legal, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Recognized leader, who is dynamic, proactive, and decisive.
  • Deep understanding of bank regulatory frameworks and control environments.
  • Experience working with internal and external auditors and regulatory supervisors.
  • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to build trusted partnerships and influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to proactively identify areas of potential risk and implement processes to control and mitigate that risk.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and communicate linkages across initiatives and disciplines.
  • Ability to translate complex technical and regulatory information into clear, actionable insights for a variety of audiences.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and execution skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • An understanding of American Express products, processes, organization, and governance processes.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinker with the ability to drive organizational change and translate enterprise priorities into actionable plans.
  • Proven ability to drive teams toward high productivity and sustained performance.
  • Prior experience with Affiliate Management or Third-Party Risk Management is a plus.
  • Undergraduate degree required. Advanced degree in Business Administration, MIS, Finance, Accounting or related is a plus.
