Job description

As the nation's premier tire distributor, ATD's coast-to-coast distribution network provides approximately 80,000 customers across the U.S. and Canada with rapid and frequent delivery of high quality tires, custom wheels and shop supplies.
Position Description:
The Yard Jockey's primary duties include relocating and positioning of trailers/containers for loading and unloading as well as maintaining organization of the drop yard. He/she works closely with Operations Supervisor, dispatcher, gatekeeper, inbound coordinator, and warehouse leads to maintain smooth flow of trailers/containers into and out of the drop yard. Operates Ottawa Yard truck to transport trailers/containers from drop yard to designated dock door as needed. Performs daily inspections of yard truck and/or equipment to ensure proper working order and reports any non-working and/or unsafe equipment conditions to management as needed. Responds to inquiries from operations team relating to trailer/container arrival and departures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete daily "Vehicle Pre-trip Inspection Form" to ensure yard truck is in proper working order; report any equipment issues promptly to management.
  • Confirm daily integrity of drop yard and fencing to Operations Manager to maintain physical security; arrange trailers against wall bumpers to prevent pilferage.
  • Obtain outbound schedules to assign trailer ID numbers to designated dock doors for loading by warehouse personnel.
  • Operate Ottawa Yard truck to transport trailers from yard drop slots to designated dock doors as required.
  • Respond promptly to operational team inquiries regarding trailer/container arrivals and departures.
  • Use Blue Yonder Yard management system for completing all trailer moves in the YMS system.
  • Use the morning "Yard Audit sheet" to conduct a yard check for all outbound yard trailers, reporting loaded trailers remaining in the yard and validating empty trailers that arrived after hours; submit completed audit sheet to dispatcher.
  • Use yard truck to transport containers from drop lot to designated dock doors for unloading; cut security ID seals, open and secure doors before backing container into dock.
  • Utilize Ottawa yard truck to move loaded outbound trailers away from docks; ensure all trailer doors are closed and secure bolt security ID seals.
  • Utilize the afternoon "Yard Audit sheet checklist" to document status of containers-empty, loaded from the previous day, and daily arrivals at the Mixing Center; provide completed checklist to dispatcher and update gatekeeper daily.

• Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear, taste and/or smell; the employee must occasionally lift products weighing up to approximately 50 pounds. Handling of tires (e.g., rolling, destacking, team lifting) greater than approximately 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
• Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Travel required: 75% of the time, no overnight stays (CDL drivers will have overnight stays)
