Job description

ADVANCE YOUR CAREER. ADVANCE THE WORLD.

At AMD, we believe technology can change lives for the better. It can heal us, entertain us, and make us more connected, productive, and understanding of the world around us. And we’re looking for talent who feel the same: people who want to leave the planet better than they found it, those who don’t shy away from humanity’s challenges but are determined to help solve them.

AMD is powering the next generation of supercomputing, high-performance computing, cloud, and AI. Whether you’re designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or creating go-to-market plans, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger - technology that moves the world forward.

THE ROLE:

AMD Client AI Solutions is seeking a Senior Applications Engineer to accelerate the adoption and quality of local AI experiences on AMD Ryzen AI platforms. This role combines Windows AI expertise, strategic OEM and ISV AI solutioning, competitive analysis and technical collateral ownership. You will work cross functionally within AMD (product marketing, applications engineering and software engineering) and with external customers (Microsoft, ISVs and OEMs) to resolve difficult technical issues and improve the end-to-end developer experience.

THE PERSON:

You are a hands-on, collaborative engineer who can move comfortably between software development, technical investigation, benchmarking, technical collateral (docs, blogs), and cross-functional problem solving. You communicate clearly and take ownership of ambiguous problems through resolution.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Windows Local AI and Windows ML, including model deployment and hardware-accelerated inference on AMD Ryzen AI platforms.
  • Partner with Microsoft and internal AMD teams to validate Windows AI scenarios, close platform gaps, and communicate customer and developer requirements.
  • Provide high-touch technical support for prioritized and escalated OEM and ISV issues. Reproduce problems, lead technical triage, isolate root causes, recommend workarounds, and engage software engineering when product changes are required.
  • Own, develop, and maintain customer-facing technical documentation for Ryzen AI, including architecture guidance, installation content, tutorials, samples, troubleshooting material, and release-aligned updates for ryzenai.docs.amd.com.
  • Create or improve reference applications, sample code, diagnostic utilities, and technical collateral that help developers successfully deploy AI workloads on Windows.
  • Plan and execute competitive analysis and benchmarking across AMD and competitive AI PC platforms. Translate findings into reproducible data, technical insights, and recommendations for engineering and product teams.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in AI inference solutions, applications engineering, software engineering, benchmarking / performance engineering, or a closely related technical role.
  • Strong hands-on programming and debugging skills in Python and C/C++ on Windows.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively apply AI tools and technologies in daily work to accelerate problem solving, enhance software quality, and increase productivity.
  • Practical experience with AI/ML inference workflows and frameworks such as PyTorch, ONNX, ONNX Runtime, Hugging Face, or equivalent technologies. Examples of AI applications built on Windows laptops are a big plus.
  • Experience writing high-quality developer documentation, technical tutorials, sample code, or customer-facing engineering guides.
  • Working knowledge of performance analysis, benchmarking methodology, workload characterization, and results interpretation.
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical findings to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical or computer engineering or related equivalent
LOCATION:

San Jose, California
