Job description

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we've designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

We're looking for an Equipment Operations Engineer with expert experience installing, commissioning and troubleshooting custom industrial equipment in a high tech, high speed manufacturing environment. : This position will lead production maintenance operations to ensure maximum equipment reliability, availability, and performance. Drive maintenance excellence through strategic planning, predictive/preventive maintenance programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key job responsibilities
• Implement comprehensive maintenance strategies to optimize equipment reliability and minimize production downtime
• Troubleshoot complex equipment issues and implementing sustainable solutions
• Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Drive root cause analysis programs and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring equipment failures
• Maintain spare parts inventory management
• Manage maintenance budgets, including labor, parts, and contractor costs
• Partner with Production teams to coordinate maintenance activities with production schedules
• Lead maintenance improvement projects to enhance equipment reliability and reduce maintenance costs
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintenance procedures
• Prioritize and complete repair tasks assigned by the Equipment Operations Engineer with minimal supervision, exercising sound judgment on sequencing and urgency
• Manage chip removal and coolant systems, including monitoring and adjusting coolant concentration levels, performing coolant swaps, and maintaining overall coolant health across all machines.
• Maintain thorough and accurate PM documentation, work order records, and equipment history logs
• Inspect and replenish lubrication systems, oil reservoirs, and grease points on all assigned equipment; identify trends and escalate recurring issues proactively.
A day in the life
Each shift begins with a walkthrough of all equipment, checking coolant concentrations and system health across every machine. The Machine Shop Mechanic reviews the PM schedule and prioritizes work orders. They perform hands-on maintenance on CNC machines, waterjets, and parts washers - inspecting lubrication, oil reservoirs, and overall system condition. When equipment fails, they diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical issues independently. They partner with the Equipment Operations Engineer on complex repairs, document all work, and close the shift ensuring the shop meets 5S and safety standards.
About the team
The Amazon Leo machine shop provides development and production machining capabilities supporting satellite manufacturing. These operations occur in our Redmond facilities.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in project management including resource planning, managing schedules, reporting project status and prioritizing tasks
- Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
- Can reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience maintaining waterjet cutting systems
- Familiarity with parts washer maintenance and cleaning systems
- Experience with Fanuc and/or Okuma CNC controls, including diagnostics and parameter-level troubleshooting
- Experience performing geometric assessments of machine tools, including tramming, squareness checks, and axis alignment verification
- Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms)
- Associate's degree or vocational certification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Maintenance

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
