Job description

The Device Tech team is seeking a Systems Development Engineer to build and maintain the platforms and automation that power on-premise compute and storage infrastructure across Amazon's first, middle, and last mile operations. This role is critical to ensuring our application teams can reliably provision, configure, and operate on-premise infrastructure without friction, enabling them to focus on their core business rather than infrastructure complexity.
You will work alongside senior engineers to design and build self-service tools, automation workflows, and monitoring solutions that abstract infrastructure complexity for dozens of application teams across thousands of sites globally. You will gain deep exposure to AWS services, hybrid cloud architecture, and the operational challenges of managing compute and storage at the edge of Amazon's network.
This is a role for someone who is passionate about building systems that make our customers lives easier

Someone who wants to comprehend how infrastructure works end-to-end, from networking fundamentals to cloud services to the applications running on top, and turn that knowledge into reliable, well-tested automation.
Key job responsibilities
- Build and maintain self-service systems that enable application teams to manage on-premise compute and storage infrastructure without manual intervention
- Design and implement automation for infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and lifecycle workflows
- Develop monitoring and observability solutions to track system health across distributed on-premise environments
- Write Infrastructure-as-Code (AWS CDK) to deploy and manage cloud and hybrid infrastructure at scale
- Provide technical assistance to application teams onboarding to on-premise compute and storage platforms, troubleshooting interconnection and configuration issues
- Partner with senior engineers on architecture decisions, participating in design reviews and contributing to technical documentation
- Improve operational excellence by automating repetitive tasks, building runbooks, and reducing manual toil for the team
- Participate in on-call rotations, learning to diagnose and resolve issues across networking, compute, and storage layers
A day in the life
You might start your morning writing TypeScript / Kotlin code for a new feature in the team's self-service portal and getting it reviewed by a senior engineer. Mid-morning, you are debugging a failed provisioning workflow, tracing the issue through CloudWatch logs to a networking mismatch. After lunch, you join a design review and contribute ideas based on patterns from service tickets

Later, you are writing a CDK construct that automates a previously manual process for application teams. Throughout the day, you are learning how on-premise infrastructure, cloud services, and networking power Amazon's operations at global scale.
Amazon offers a full range of benefits that support you and eligible family members, including domestic partners. Benefits can vary by location, the number of regularly scheduled hours you work, length of employment, and job status such as seasonal or temporary employment

The benefits that generally apply to regular, full-time employees include:
1. Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage
2. Maternity and Parental Leave Options
3.

Paid Time Off (PTO)
4. 401(k) Plan
If you are not sure that every qualification on the list above describes you exactly, we'd still love to hear from you. At Amazon, we value people with unique backgrounds, experiences, and skillsets.

If you're passionate about this role and want to make an impact on a global scale, please apply!
About the team
The Device Tech team builds multi-tenant management solutions for on-premise compute and storage infrastructure to power Amazon's robotics and fulfillment operations at global scale. We deliver common, self-service solutions that enable application teams to provision and manage their infrastructure independently. We value operational excellence, automation, and building abstractions that make complex infrastructure accessible to all.

We support application teams powering everything from robotics to last-mile delivery across thousands of fulfillment centers global.
