Amazon Robotics is located in the greater Boston area, the epicenter of robotics innovation. Our diverse team of engineers comes from all over the world to design, test, and build our dynamic fleet of robots and mechatronic systems. Having our offices, labs, test floors, and factories all co-located means that we can design the hardware, write the code, test, build, and watch it all come to life.

This allows us to innovate quickly and on limitless ideas. Current advancements are underway in autonomous movement and mobility, artificial intelligence and machine learning, manipulation, simulation, robotic management software, predictive analytics, and much more.
The Amazon Robotics (AR) organization develops and oversees testing of high-quality robotics using automated solutions.

It is a fast-paced operation that works cross-functionally with teams across Amazon globally, and embraces multi-talented, hardworking, technology-driven individuals. In this role, you will act as a Sustaining Test Development Engineer, accountable for developing, supporting, troubleshooting, and continuously improving the manufacturing test systems that sustain our production lines across internal factories and contract manufacturing (CM) sites.
This position primarily focuses on test development and sustaining engineering for electro-mechanical sub-assemblies, including printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), sensors, and vision systems.

You will maintain test station uptime, investigate failures to root cause, and optimize automated test solutions to drive improvements in product yield, test coverage, and reliability. We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented engineer with a proven track record of sustaining automated test systems in a High-Volume Manufacturing environment. This role reports to the Product Sustaining and Support Engineering team within Amazon Robotics.


Key job responsibilities
- Actively enable and foster a culture of inclusion.
- Provide sustaining engineering and troubleshooting for manufacturing test systems across internal factory and contract manufacturing (CM) sites to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and minimize downtime.
- Design, develop, and validate automated test sequences and custom test fixtures for electro-mechanical sub-assemblies.
- Define test strategies, evaluate product testability (Design for Test/DFT), and establish strict acceptance criteria to deliver robust test solutions.
- Own and resolve escalated test-floor incidents, serving as the technical point of contact and participating in on-call rotations.
- Maintain, debug, and optimize automated test sequences utilizing standard frameworks (e.g., NI TestStand, LabVIEW) for assigned product lines.
- Analyze product yield, coverage, and reliability metrics to identify failure trends, driving Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance test processes, reduce false reject rates (FRR), and optimize test coverage.
- Execute test script updates, instrument calibrations, and fixture deployments or retrofits with minimal supervision.
- Document and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), test specifications, preventive maintenance (PM) plans, and troubleshooting guides.
- Propose engineering change orders (ECOs) to improve product manufacturability (DFM) and testability (DFT).
- Mentor junior engineers, test technicians, and peers on best practices in test automation and fault isolation.
- Promote a safe working environment by strictly adhering to all facility and equipment safety procedures.
- Travel up to 30% to support global manufacturing sites.
