Nature & Purpose of Position
This role will support The Reading, Writing, and Humanities division of the Academic Success Center. The Writing Graduate Assistant will support student writers across the disciplines by partnering with Faculty members as a Writing Fellow for specific courses/assignments. This position will work one-on-one and in group settings to promote academic success, student engagement, personal development, and meaningful connections with SHSU Faculty, Staff, and resources.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct tutoring sessions
  • Serve as a support to Undergraduate Writing Tutors in the Academic Success Center
  • Connect with Faculty from across the disciplines to partner as Writing Fellows
  • Serve as Writing Fellows for Faculty from a designated college and provide expert, subject-specific peer writing tutoring.
  • Assist the Assistant Director of the Reading, Writing, and Humanities division of the ASC with programming as needed
  • Support Progress Report Campaigns by conducting individual appointments with students, monitoring the completion of Appointment Summary Reports, and debriefing with Writing Tutors who may struggle to support a student in an appointment.
  • Contribute to the creation and design of digital media for course content, announcements, and events.
  • Make referrals where needed to guide students in seeking appropriate campus support.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.
