Job description

JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Coach for softball supports the Head Coach in all aspects of running a successful collegiate athletic program, including recruitment, training, practice planning, game strategy, academic monitoring, and team management. This position promotes the mission and values of the athletic department and institution.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting practice sessions.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of game strategies.
  • Support the recruitment of prospective student-athletes in accordance with college, conference, and NAIA rules.
  • Monitor academic progress and provide guidance to ensure student-athletes meet academic requirements.
  • Supervise and mentor student-athletes both on and off the field.
  • Assist with travel arrangements, equipment management, and inventory.
  • Participate in fundraising, alumni engagement, and community outreach events including camps.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of and adhere to all applicable college, conference, and NAIA rules and regulations.
  • Perform administrative duties and other responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
  • Bachelor's degree in sports management, business, science or closely related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Prior coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or club level preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the sport's rules, techniques, and tactics.
  • Ability to recruit and develop student-athletes.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain within nine (9) months of employment.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Regular evening and weekend hours required
  • Travel with the team is expected.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Must have strong organizational and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; excellent interpersonal skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work requires the ability to move and lift 30 to 50 pounds independently and be able to perform strenuous physical labor, and the ability to exert 30 to 50 pounds of force frequently. May be required to use a ladder. Also requires frequent bending, squatting, standing, reaching, climbing, kneeling, stooping, crawling, and occasional sitting. May be required to occasionally work in small, hard to reach spaces. Work is performed both inside a facility and outdoors in all weather conditions. Some hazardous situations may exist based on work to be performed.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work environment may risk exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, disease/pathogens, toxic/caustic chemicals.
