Staff Accountant - Santa Rosa, CA
Alternative Family Services is looking for a Staff Accountant to join our dynamic team! This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive team and use your accounting skills to make an impact on the lives of vulnerable children and youth in the community. Under the direction of the Financial Controller, the Staff Accountant is responsible for various accounting activities related to our foster care programs, including, but not limited to, month-end close processes, journal entries and reconciliations. This individual also supports the agencyโ€™s bi-weekly payroll process. This position is based in Sonoma County, CA and work is performed on-site at the Santa Rosa, CA office.*

Alternative Family Services is a Foster Family, Adoption and Mental Health Agency that has been serving abused and neglected children in our community since 1973. Our mission is to support vulnerable children and families in need of stability, safety, and well-being in communities. We provide a wide range of foster, adoption, mental health and transition-aged youth services in English and Spanish. We have eight locations throughout the Bay Area and 200 employees. Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and complete the monthly foster care revenue process
  • Review data for foster care placements, verify accuracy, and identify and resolve discrepancies
  • Prepare reports for board and care payments and ensure resource parents are paid accurately and timely
  • Provide customer service for resource parent inquiries
  • Enter cash receipts and record journal entries
  • Research and resolve delinquent receivable accounts
  • Process timesheets for bi-weekly payroll and provide back-up support for other payroll duties
  • Reconcile GL accounts on a monthly basis
Qualifications
  • At least four years of accounting experience in a similar role
  • Intermediate Excel skills required
  • Ability to perform high volume data entry with a high level of accuracy
  • High level of aptitude and excellent organization skills
  • Must be reliable, flexible and able to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work through and resolve issues
  • Possess a positive, professional attitude with a team-oriented mindset
  • Comfortable working with diverse populations
