Summary of the role:
The Student Solar Construction Intern will join GRID's construction and workforce development teams to support the installation of Denver Public Schools solar projects. This internship is designed for young adults interested in construction, climate action, and exploring careers in the clean-energy sector.
No prior experience is required-just curiosity, reliability, and a willingness to learn. You will have the opportunity to support the installation of solar on either Montbello High School or Responsive Arts and STEAM Academy (RASA). This is a paid, seasonal summer internship for 110-hour commitment.
Schedule, Location, Pay
Summer internship (6-8 weeks, depending on region)
  • Located: Denver, Co
  • Schedule: Max Hrs. 110 Hours
  • Internship takes place at GRID Alternatives Colorado office and active solar installation sites as well as training labs
  • Pay: Paid by Denver Youth Employment Program, Denver $19.29
  • Start and End dates: June 8, 2026 through September 7th, 2026
  • Weekday schedule with occasional events

What you will be doing while learning:
  • Solar Installation & Construction Support
  • Assist construction staff with installing rooftop and ground-mounted solar systems.
  • Learn and practice safe use of hand tools, ladders, and basic construction equipment.
  • Help prepare job sites, including staging materials, loading/unloading equipment, and maintaining a clean work area.
  • Participate in racking, panel placement, wiring support, and system testing under supervision.
  • Model safe work practices and follow all GRID safety protocols.

Community Engagement
  • Represent GRID's mission on job sites and in community settings.
  • Collaborate with diverse teams of volunteers, homeowners, and fellow interns.
  • Support outreach or educational events as needed.
