The Department of Psychology at the University of Akron (https://www.uakron.edu/psychology/ invites applications for a (tenure-track) Assistant Professor position starting in August 2027.

Required Qualifications:

We seek to assemble a cohort of teacher-scholars who will offer a strong contribution to the excellence of UA through teaching, scholarship, service and collaboration. Specifically, as an urban-research university, we are particularly interested in scholars whose work touches on the pressing needs of cities and urban communities such as health, career outlooks, and employment. In addition, weseekscholarsthat will lead collaborations among faculty, students and community partners that address questions ofwell-being, public safety, and civic engagement.

Within the broad focus of I/O Psychology, we seek a scholar focused on teaching and researching content that may include recruitment, selection, performance management, team processes, leadership, culture, well-being, organizational effectiveness, and employee success. In addition, we seek applicants who provide evidence of research activity/publication in high quality, peer-reviewed I/O Psychology and Management journals. It is also important that the successful candidate can effectively teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses and effectively advise/mentor graduate students in their research activities. Finally, we also expect applicants to have completed the requirements for a Ph.D. in I/O Psychology, or related field, by the position start date of August 23, 2027.

Preferred Qualifications:

The mission of the Psychology Department is to prepare students to excel in diverse careers in Health, Education, Business, & Research. We do this by equipping them with the scientific and professional knowledge within a broader and evolving socio-cultural, historical, and systemic context. This equipping is necessary to understand, engage, and improve the condition of individuals, groups, organizations, and society through community-engaged teaching, research, and service which is expected of all of our faculty.

Additional Position Information:

Teaching and Research Expectations: With almost 400 undergraduate majors and graduating up to 100 per year, Psychology is one of the largest academic units in the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences. This, coupled with 3 PhD programs and a stand alone MA program in I/O, makes for a very busy, engaged, and exciting department. Hence, our new faculty member will be expected to teach at both the undergraduate level and the graduate level in I/O giving them wonderful opportunities, experiences, and an integral role within this very active department which is one of the leading units on campus.
