Description

 Houston Metro Urology clinic is seeking an experienced Bilingual Certified Medical Assistant. The certified medical assistant will work under the direction of a physician, is responsible for performing a wide variety of medical and clinical support functions in an outpatient clinic setting. This position performs a wide variety of patient care activities including, but not limited to, maintenance of clinical records and documentation, administering medications, giving injections, and taking vital signs. 


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations. Disinfects rooms after each patient, equipment after procedures, and restocks supplies.
  • Assists and accompanies patients from the waiting room and prepares patients for examination.
  • Assists in examination, procedures, and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.
  • Interviews patients and records information to patients' electronic medical record (Athena EMR). Collects all medical data to facilitate the physician's ability to diagnose and determine patients' needs. Ensure all charts and forms for the office visit are ready for the provider
  • Measures, collects and records patient's vital signs (i.e., temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, weight, and height).
  • Performs routine patient testing, collects, processes, and prepares blood specimens and urine samples.
  • Prepares and administers routine oral, rectal, medications, injections, and vaccinations as directed by Physician. Identifies and reports adverse reactions.
  • Removes sutures and staples and change sterile and non-sterile dressings. May catheterize patients.
  • Calls patients with lab, test results, and prescription refills. Returns patients' calls within 24 hours.

Key Success Factors:

  • Medical assistant certification from a program accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants or the American Medical Technologists.
  • Knowledge of principles of safe and accurate medication administration.
  • Ability to accurately document patient information in accordance with organizational policies, HIPAA regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to make observations of the general physical condition of the patient and notifies the physician of abnormalities.
  • Ability to give injections and draw blood. Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent bedside manner and ability to make patients feel at ease.
  • Appears friendly, reassuring, and approachable to patients.
  • Computer proficiency and familiarity with electronic medical records. Athena EMR
  • High attention to detail, ability to multitask and prioritize tasks and work in a busy, fast-paced environment.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Education - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • Experience - Minimum 2 Years.
  • Certification/License/Registration - Basic Life Support (BLS). Must be Certified Medical Assistant.
  • 6 months phlebotomy experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of EMR software experience.
  • Bilingual in Spanish
