Under general direction, uses advanced skills gained through training and experience to execute listed and domestic agency over the counter (OTC) business and timely reports each execution to the financial advisor. Follows established procedures to perform routine tasks and receives general guidance and direction to coach & mentor others in performing other work with substantial variety and complexity requiring broad decision making responsibility. This trader is considered a more "high touch" trader utilizing complex trading techniques and algorithms to achieve higher level execution options for the experienced retail / institutional customer. Originality and ingenuity are required to locate, select and apply appropriate procedures, processes and techniques to assignments that are broad in nature. Serves as a resource to others in resolving complex problems and issues and refers new or unusual issues to a higher level. Routine contact with internal and external customers is required to obtain, clarify or provide facts and information.
Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works with Management and business consultants to improve future business processes. Responsible for the documentations of current/future business processes.
  • A coach and mentor to less experienced associates.
  • Monitors trading inventories and error accounts
  • Helps resolve trading issues as they arise and keep management informed of any such issues.
  • Executes customer orders with other market making firms over the telephone.
  • Executes customer orders, using the Brass system, OMS system, and through other trading systems.
  • Gives financial advisors advice on larger orders and keeps them informed of pending orders.
  • Quotes domestic and foreign issues.
  • Monitors the progress of long-term orders (good until cancel orders).
  • Executes block trades with other market makers.
  • Looks for trade discrepancies and potential problems in customer orders (restricted stock, reverse splits, wrong quantity, etc.) to minimize risk to the financial advisor and firm prior to executing the trade.
  • Assesses market risk and works quickly and accurately to get customers the best possible price.
  • Cancels and corrects any trade discrepancies.
  • Prepares OTC tickets for archive.
  • Cultivates relationships among other dealers.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Industry regulations related to trading activities.
  • Advanced concepts, practices and procedures of Listed and OTC Agency Trading.
  • Advanced investment concepts, practices and procedures used in the securities industry.

  • Proper telephone etiquette - clear, concise and accurate.
  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications, including the BRASS trading system, the OMS trading system, FINRA workstation, and Reuters.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) or equivalent with a minimum of two (2) years of financial services experience.
  • OR ~
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.

Licenses/Certifications
  • SIE required provided that an exemption or grandfathering cannot be applied.
  • FINRA Series 7 and Series 55 licenses or the ability to obtain within sixty (60) days.
