Job description

Position Summary: A Host greets and facilitates the guest experience by scheduling reservations, organizing server sections and maintaining an efficient customer flow. The Host is responsible for communicating feedback from customers and informing staff of menu or operational changes.
Reports to: Assistant Manager
Job Tasks
  • Ensure that the dining and serving areas are properly set up and clean.
  • Prepare and organize reservations.
  • Greet guests in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Communicate with management, kitchen staff, and serving staff to seat guests with menus at the appropriate tables as per the organized seating chart in an order that does not overload the kitchen or a particular server.
  • Communicate with guests to ensure quality satisfaction with food and service.
  • Respond appropriately to customer complaints and bring any issues to the attention of a manager.
  • Inform guests about menu specials, entertainment and area events.
  • Perform cashier functions as required.
  • Plan parties or special events.
  • Perform marketing and other promotional services.
  • Clean, clear and set tables as required.
  • Participate in end of shift side duties.

Main Responsibilities and Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Customer Service: Must consistently be able to assess, anticipate and meet multiple guests' needs at high quality standards and evaluate customer satisfaction without projecting a mood that detracts from guests' experience. Must balance guests' needs with those of guests served by wait staff. This requires practical knowledge of industry customer service standards.
Communication: Must clearly communicate in a professional manner with guests, vendors, coworkers and management. The ability to promote two-way communication by presenting clear ideas using thoughtful and responsive words. Nonverbal cues from a guest or teammate can alert the Manager to a potential problem. Must also understand instructions, read written company memorandums and communicate when he or she needs more direction.
