Lead the projects that define the region.

Volkert is seeking an experienced Alternative Delivery Roadway Design Lead to support major transportation projects across our East Gulf Region. This role may be based in Alabama or Tennessee, or candidates must be willing to relocate to one of our offices in either state.

This is a key leadership position for a senior roadway professional who thrives in Alternative Delivery environments and brings deep experience delivering complex DOT highway and interstate projects.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Serve as the Roadway Discipline Lead for East Gulf Alternative Delivery projects
  • Provide technical leadership, design oversight, and hands-on roadway production support
  • Lead preparation of roadway plan sets including plans, profiles, cross sections, and detail sheets
  • Develop specifications, calculate quantities, and prepare construction cost estimates
  • Coordinate with DOT clients, design-build partners, and subconsultants
  • Collaborate across disciplines in a team-based delivery environment
  • Mentor and develop roadway staff

What you need to have:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE); Alabama and/or Tennessee preferred
  • 20+ years of roadway design experience
  • Extensive experience with DOT major highway and interstate projects
  • Proven Alternative Delivery (Design-Build, CM/GC, etc.) experience required
  • Proficiency in MicroStation; OpenRoads Designer preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development experience
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
  • Valid driver’s license
  • A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
