Job Summary

The CDL Truck Driver for Alabama Goodwill Industries is responsible for the safe, efficient, and professional transportation of donated goods between donation centers, retail stores, warehouses, and other designated locations. This role ensures timely pickups and deliveries while maintaining compliance with all safety, DOT, and company policies.

Drivers serve as front-line ambassadors of Alabama Goodwill Industries and are expected to provide excellent customer service while supporting the organizationโ€™s mission of transforming lives through education, training, and employment.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation & Operations

  • Operate box trucks and/or tractor-trailers safely and efficiently
  • Execute assigned routes and schedules as directed by dispatch
  • Load and unload donated goods using proper equipment and techniques
  • Ensure proper load securement to prevent damage or injury
  • Transport goods between retail stores, ADCs, warehouses, and partner locations

Safety & Compliance

  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Comply with all DOT regulations and company safety policies
  • Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions immediately
  • Maintain a clean driving record and safe driving practices
  • Use required PPE (gloves, safety vest, back support, etc.)

Equipment & Vehicle Care

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned vehicle
  • Operate hand trucks, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment
  • Report mechanical issues promptly
  • Ensure all required safety equipment is present and functional

Documentation & Technology

  • Utilize GPS and fleet tracking systems
  • Complete digital manifests and delivery confirmations
  • Obtain proof of delivery when required
  • Accurately record mileage, fuel usage, and route activity

Customer Service

  • Provide courteous and professional interactions with donors, customers, and staff
  • Represent Alabama Goodwill Industries in a positive manner
  • Address basic customer questions and escalate concerns as needed

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid driverโ€™s license & CDL required for tractor-trailer operation
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
  • Ability to pass DOT physical and drug screening
  • Ability to lift 50โ€“75 lbs regularly
  • Strong attention to safety and detail
  • Basic mobile device/technology skills

Preferred

  • Previous delivery or logistics experience
  • Experience operating box trucks or tractor-trailers
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations
  • Experience with GPS routing systems or delivery software

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of donated goods
  • Standing, walking, bending, and climbing in/out of vehicles
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions
  • Extended periods of driving

Work Environment

  • Combination of driving, warehouse, and retail environments
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions
  • Fast-paced, physically active work setting

Work Schedule

  • Full-time position
  • Schedule may include early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends
  • Routes assigned daily by dispatch

Compensation

  • $24.00 per hour
  • Eligible for benefits in accordance with Alabama Goodwill Industries policy
